In 2017, men worked 56% of all hours and earned 56% of all income. Women worked 44% of all hours and earned 44% of all income.

"If rape laws were gender neutral then men would falsely accuse women of rape" -- a discussion I had with a feminist.

If feminists actually believed in the theory behind toxic masculinity, they would support the men's rights movement. MRAs are giving men a voice and a safe space to express themselves.

I feel like there is an unwritten rule in society that men are expected to listen to their wives / girlfriends and be obedient to them. Nobody wants to talk about this though and some people even think it's misogynistic to bring it up.

Most feminists are radical feminists by the literal dictionary definition of radical feminism: "the belief that society functions as a patriarchy in which men oppress women"

Men do not seem like they are proud to be men. And this is detrimental to their mental health. We need to celebrate men instead of demonizing them.

The idea that women are "bigger victims" than men is a harmful, antiquated gender norm that promotes toxic ideas in society

Last week we had a discussion about how patriarchy theory is pretty sexist against men. That no matter how you try to sugar coat it, the foundational assumptions of patriarchy theory imply malice and evilness from men.

https://www.reddit.com/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates/comments/l8h3hw/the_foundational_principals_of_all_flavours_of/

Well the other side of the coin is that it also implies stupidity and inferiority from women.

For patriarchy theory to work, women have to either be dumb, inferior, or gullible to have been subjected to, and also supportive of, the patriarchy. In short, it implies a kind of war of the sexes where the superior (but evil) sex won against the inferior sex.

A more somber look at history and gender roles implies something much different though. Gender roles actually made sense for thousands and thousands of years. They gave women, as well as men, privileges and responsibilities that largely parallel biological differences between men and women (like the fact that women give birth and men don't). And women were very much involved in shaping and molding gender roles themselves. It wasn't something that men came up with and forced on women. It was something that men and women both came up with over time and that had give and take from both sides.

We can talk about gender roles being outdated and obsolete today, as well as some of the struggles and growing pains we've had because of it. But I don't think it's very healthy, or accurate, to view history through the lens of men oppressing women. That's just not what happened. And it implies a lot of things that many of the supporters of this view probably don't want to admit to.

There is no one feminists hate more than women who get along with men... which is most women.

Patriarchal Theory is Qanon for unattractive women, change my mind.

[–]Alataire 5 points6 points7 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

There are a lot of very attractive women who believe in patriarchal theory, including a lot of very famous and very well paid actresses. Think of the type like Emma Watson, or Maisie Williams. Perhaps it's a bit of a coping mechanism, or a way to say all is right, or just a way to get more jobs. Who knows.

Note the argument for attractive/unattractive women can go in two ways: they can be angry because of how unfair the world treats them, or they can recognize female privilege from seeing what all the attractive women get away with and get for free, just because they are attractive women.

It's more of an upper class(predominately white)woman thing if anything

Nah, patriarchal theory isn’t for unattractive women, it’s for women who want to subscribe to a very one-sided perspective of gender roles.

Plenty of attractive women are big believers in this because it’s easy to digest and doesn’t require any self reflection
