Article is terrible

Many men were incredibly quick to point out all the ways in which they think female privilege exists. Here’s the irony: no one ever said it doesn’t exist. It surely does. But two things need to be understood. 1) Building a defense that male privilege doesn’t exist can’t be done by pointing out other people’s privilege. 2) If you’re going to get irate at privileges that women have, at least get irate about something that is actually privilege.

Most women have the ability recognize our privilege. We understand women are far less likely to get called to the carpet over an off color joke made to a male co-worker. An older lady making a sassy comment to a young man will not be seen as a threat. That is privilege. We also know that crap has to go. We’re policing ourselves. We do this by understanding what it’s like to be in someone’s shoes and how they may feel victimized.

I have an issue with the whole article. Privilege isn't something a particular sex is contributing to. It's something that just exists, whether that particular sex is pushing it or not. The thesis of the article seems to be "female privilege exists, but that is men's fault. Be better men!"

The whole story reads a bit like this. She feels very sure in what she is writing, but makes a lot of mistaken assumptions. Almost all of us make this mistake, where we think our own experiences and opinions can be translated to large groups of people. The fact that she had not realized that for gay people there is a different dynamic, gives a good idea how fully thought out her thinking was. But I do applaud for the honesty.

As feminists say, it is hard to recognise your own privilege, because it seems so natural to you. The writer of this blog has absolutely no idea of her own privilege, and when confronted with it does what the men she complains about do: claim that the privilege does not exist.

And as for getting primary custody: men used to get this by default. Early feminists fought to get the tender years doctrine made the law of the land which reversed this. Our current situation is a result of that feminist victory. A victory they fight to maintain by opposing any efforts to correct this system.

It isn't misogyny. It's clearly privilege.

Feminism routinely say female privilege doesn't exist by rebranding it as "benevolent sexism". So even when women benefit, it's still men's fault for being sexist.

Pretty typical. The basic underlying assumption is that men are unable to understand women's issues, because they lack the lived experience, while at the same time asserting that women have perfect understanding of men's issues.

My ~~only~~ objection to this article is that "no one ever said [female privilege] doesn’t exist" is total bull, even when you accept the obvious hyperbole. Feminists are in no rush to acknowledge their privilege or the ways in which women's actions perpetuate the system of gender norms they erroneously refer to as "patriarchy". That's why they define "sexism" as something that women are fundamentally incapable of. It's easier than critical thought or personal growth.

Last month, after going to a concert I wrote an article about one example of male privilege: things men do that most don’t think twice about. Like leave a drink unattended.

I'm a guy and I won't leave a drink unattended.
I know plenty of women who will. "Get me a drink" and "hold my drink for me" are phrases more often uttered by women than men, mainly because they have the privilege of manipulating other people to do things for them.
I also think this is more an issue of parinoia than it is a legitimate concern.
