You never truly own your land. You are renting it from the government. Sure you might have paid off your mortgage, but you'll always owe money on it every year to Uncle Sam.
Tax your money coming in, tax it going out, tax what you already own, tax what you don't own, taxes for WIC and Medicare and Social Security.
I remember reading about a man who found gold on his property, and was planning on keeping it. Then the government bankrupted him by sending him a bill for tens of millions in owed taxes on his find.
Stupid move on his part publicizing the find though.

Both systems are scams imo. Private healthcare facilities get to charge literally whatever the fuck they feel like. There's not really a standard cost of service. There were people who went in to get tested for covid, dude without insurance paid like $60 or something and the his buddy who went through his insurance ended up paying $180 or something absurd.
The lack of consistency in costs is what frustrates me. (I'll use an example I'm aware of) A typical trt dose is ~125-150mg/week. The facilities in my area charge around $120 a month for something that I can literally make year's worth at home in completely safe and sanitary conditions for less than $20. And the equipment required to do so will only set you back a few hundred, once you have the main components the costs to continue creating your own test are negligible at best.

Socialized healthcare is most of the population footing the bill for a small sector of the population.
Our socialized healthcare in Canada sucks to the core. Even liberals complain of wait times and concerns not being addressed. In many offices you are only allowed to bring one complaint per visit, since doctors are paid on a flat rate system similar to mechanics. The same mechanics that sell you brakes when you don't really need brakes
Also our healthcare system doesn't cover eyes and teeth, the two major things young people are taking care of. How is that healthcare?
Socialized health care is the biggest scam. No one is accountable, everything is outrageously expensive to the tax payer since you can literally name your price, and the doctors are burnt out from seeing "colds and depression" all day long.
I am guessing you haven't experienced the two different systems on a personal level. I have and the Americans have it right. That's why so many Canadians fly to America for professional courteous treatment in a timely manner.
One last point. Just remember healthcare is so expensive in America due to all of the laws and regulations practitioners have to follow. That is neither the doctor nor the citizens fault, once again that is the government stepping in a getting in the way of freedom.

Healthcare is pricy in the US not because of regulation, but because it's an insurance scam that everyone valuing their health has to go through.

Defense and roads are needed to sustain society. These are the most basic requirements of a functional society. Health care is required to sustain a person, but not a society. Modern society wouldn't eat without logistics, and logistics require roads.
I never said anything close to what your last paragraph insinuates I said. If anything, every citizen is responsible since they are all footing the bill. You complain of the "insurance scam" and fail to realize that socialized healthcare is a giant insurance scam. In the province of Ontario in canada, you have to show your government issued OHIP card. OHIP stands for Ontario Health Insurance Plan.
If you think the insurance scam of the USA is bad, what do you think of a scam people are forced to be a part of? I went to the ER with someone who didnt have their OHIP card. Didnt pass triage, friend left 10 minutes later with a velcro neck brace on. $400 bill. Ohip later reimbursed the charge. By the way, no doctor was seen. Simply a Triage nurse for literally no more than 10 minutes, and most of that time was processing admin info.
If it makes you feel better, I have no problem with toll roads and militia's either... the most private forms of roads and defense.
Socialized healthcare isn't a bad idea, it is a bad practice. The wait lists are endless, the true costs extremely high. Think about it... if you took all that money you are forced to pay, and saved it, in theory you should still be able to pay for your own healthcare, no? You would only use it when needed, and not take more than was needed. Bad doctors would have a horrible reputation and lose their practice due to low volumes of patients... such things do not happen in Canada. I have seen it first hand, no one is excited about healthcare here. It is dreaded despite being "free"

It's interesting that you base your entire argument against socialised healthcare on Canada's without realizing that in France, which has a socialised healthcare, you are free to choose your doctor.
Also if you think that paying just when you need it, I think you misunderstand how insurance works. It's not when your house has burnt down that you get fire insurance. It's before. And your thinking of saying why paying fire insurance every month while there's no fire is typical of short-sightedness.
Training doctors and nurses and building hospitals is like building roads. It's not because you don't have a car that 1. You'll never use the roads and 2. That other people using the roads, like delivery men, aren't benefitting you.

Also in Canada, you choose your doctor. They are just hard to find since they are all over booked with clients since its "free". So in practice its more like you get what you find and keep it.
I am not against fire insurance. I am totally for private insurance. You were the one complaining about it making the rates sky rocket, which it does.
I am against government mandated insurance for healthcare. It takes all the problems of insurance and amplifies them, and takes all the benefits of private healthcare and destroys them.
I don't know why you are debating, these are both things we should agree on. I want affordable healthcare that is accessible to every productive member of society. I am giving you multiple instances of real world issues regarding socialized healthcare, and you are stuck in theory land.
I agree with the roads concept.... that is why I defended roads and military in the very first post. You getting surgery coveted by my tax dollars because you were 4 wheeling intoxicated doesn't benefit me in any way. Hospitals dont need government money to be built, they need the government to gtfo of the way. I would be the first in line to invest as a shareholder of a private hospital, getting funds to invest in such a project would never be a tough task if the construction is actually warranted.

Free Medicare for all does not work because everyone who wants this assumes that the government is more efficient in running the institution than the free market. In my country, we don't have free health care but public hospitals are a mess! Whenever you cite places where it has been done, you get the that's not really free Medicare (where have I heard this before?). I agree that something needs to be done about public health care but making it free will not work.
