I think the success of this movie appeals to women's idea of love. Women feel that when a man loves her he would sacrifice himself for her happiness, even if this means giving his life, which is the biggest sacrifice of all. When he does this the woman knows he must love her a lot! Awww!

I do believe this idea of love is inherently programmed into the male psyche. Intuitively I feel this is true to some extent when you look at what men would do for love. For women, they show their love by nurturing, which I think is how women are programmed by nature. The way men and women are programmed to love is how we evolved this far. It was the classical way traditional societies were structured with different roles for men and women.

As one would expect, more men die in the name of love than women because that is what's been expected of men throughout all of history. Men who have lost love, such as been rejected by their oneitis, would commit suicide more often than women. Hence, I believe this is one reason men suffer a lot more after a break up then women. They made huge self sacrifices that didn't pan out.
