This is not to be confused with servitude, however. Servitude is compelled. Duty is out of a personal sense of obligation and want to fulfill a higher purpose.
It may manifest itself in forms of feeding the homeless. It could be joining a volunteer group. Sometimes it's that quiet and unannounced charity that you never hear about. Other times it's the men who go out and repair homes for the elderly and infirm.
And very often this service to others is described as "tradcuck" things, such as serving in the military, law enforcement, fire fighting, or emergency medical care. What I think a lot of people forget, when they make the arguments of "don't serve a country that doesn't give a shit about you" is that for a lot of men, they really don't see it as serving a political entity -nor do they even care. They only see it as serving that sense of duty to others.
In some cases it might be misguided, such as going to a warzone where questionable interests are being fought over... But the overall pursuit of that duty in and of itself is honorable, and the way in which they thrive while pursuing it speaks volumes as to the nature of men.
We do not do well, generally speaking, with idle hands -especially when we are younger. Without some responsibility or sense of duty, many men are lost and feel as if they have no purpose. The pointless grind that so many of them are doing these days, serving corporate interests, making scraps, doesn't fulfill that need for responsibility and sense of duty.
When you stick a man in an office and tell him to fill out spreadsheets, or put him in a warehouse and tell him to sort boxes... it leaves him pretty hollow overall.
And there aren't a lot of supplements outside of the workplace these days to fill those voids, so many men are finding that if they don't find a purpose through their careers, they are left wandering. And those careers are even super limited now. Through automation and changes in technology, through changes in how we do things and what we deem as socially acceptable, many of the opportunities to go out and be a purposeful, masculine, professional like we had in generations past are simply gone.
I think this is one of the reasons we have so many of the "soyboys" in society. Not only have they been emasculated by society in general and told they are worthless, not only have they lost all of their male spaces, not only have they lost all positive male influences, not only have they been told since they were born that they're toxic and useless and degenerate, not only have they lost what it means to even be a man -
More importantly, they have lost most opportunities to have a sense of duty or a purpose in life even if they were to break the conditioning society has imposed upon them.
So they walk around, generations of weak men with no direction, no goals, and no idea of what their life means, and they achieve nothing of real value. They live with their parents, because they couldn't figure out how to be successful or get the motivation to do so. They work a dead-end job or a series of dead-end jobs with no chance of retirement, because they'll never be able to afford it. They base their self-worth on the opinions of others and materialistic pursuits that are often never fulfilled. They flounder and neglect their personal well-being because they stop caring.
By the time they reach 50, they are still caught up in memories of their high school days that they never let go of, because that was realistically the best time of their lives and nothing ever lived up to that. For 30 years they live life on a fast-forward "things will get better for me as soon as I get/do such and such" that never arrives. This is usually always focused on "going back to school" or "getting some dream job" or "saving x amount of money", but these things never happen.
They keep thinking it will be just around the corner. Just another month. Just another year. And before you know it, 30 years have passed and they are still very much mentally in the mindset that they're twenty years old.
But they never found that purpose or sense of duty to guide them. Or if they did, and lost it, they spiral out into the very same chaos.
