It has been becoming increasingly harder to have a legit relationship with a woman. False accusations are becoming more and more prevailing. Dating has always been favourable to women and the arrival of dating apps have allowed them to weed out many who would've had a chance in yesteryear's ritual of meeting in clubs with beer goggles on. That's one reason.
Another reason is housing: young men are 2x more likely to live at home than young women (for obvious reasons). The more unaffordable housing gets the bigger a barrier it is for young men.

Because previously women wouldn't slut it up publicly, thus relationships were the means for sex. A girl that was a 5 had to date a guy from her social circle (school/work/clubs/friends of friends). And since no top tier guy would publicly date a 5, she would end up with a 5 male. Today, if a woman wants sex or to try for relationships, she does it online without anyone being aware, and she tries and fucks a few 7 and 8s and hopes they commit to her. Usually they don't. Online dating, hookup culture, and makeup.
Lots of men will sleep with women who are worse looking than them, just cause they wanna get laid. Where as, evolutiinarily, women have become picky when selecting a mate (eg hypergamy).
So heres whats happening in hookup culture - the top men are drowning in pussy. Men who are 9/10 in looks are willing to sleep with 7/10 looking women. Since 5/10 looking women can use makeup to get to a 7/10, they can sleep with these really hot guys. Average women have sexual access to top men.
Online dating (like tinder) has given women an abundance of these attractive men. So they dont have to just settle for whoever they happen to meet in person, they can just meet a better guy online.
This happens for other levels of attraction. Most 7/10 looking men will sleep with 5/10 looking women. Even 3/10 looking women can use makeup to get to a 5/10, and date/hook up with 7/10 looking men.
So now, in our culture, a large chunk of women have constant acesss to men who are more attractive than them. Dating/sleeping with a good looking guy is always an option for them, so why would they settle for less?
If you had a ton of good looking women matched with you on tinder, would you even give a chance to the ugly ones? Probably not, why would you? This is how it is for many women. They have access to so many hot guys that they dont even consider a relationship/hookup with average or ugly guys.
So the bottom 25% of men basically dont have a chance. Even the bottom women can date/sleep with guys who are better looking than them. A 2/10 woman can still snag a 4/10 man because all the men below a 6/10 are so limited in options that they have to settle for someone below them, like a 2/10. The 6/10 woman isnt going for the 6/10 guy, shes going for the 8/10 guy, so the 6/10 guy has to settle for less. Him settling for less, like a 4/10, makes the 4/10 hypergamous. The 4/10 woman isnt gonna settle for a 4/10 guy when she can get a 6/10, so now the 4/10 guy has to stoop lower and go for like a 1/10 to have a chance. But with 1/10 looking women getting 4/10 men, the men below 4/10 have no options. The lowest women are still getting 4/10s, so men below a 4/10 are screwed because noones settling for them.
This is why cultures traditionally had forced lifetime monogamy. Hookup culture polarizes men so that the top men are drowning in pussy and the bottom men are getting none. It isnt sustainable. Once it becomes too polarized, society collapses and the patriarchy returns.

I said it and i will repeat it : there will be no callapse this time. The new and modern harem model (few men have sex and reproduce) will be sustainable. While I am of the same camp as the "there won't be any apocalypse, life will just get slowly progressively suckier", many disenfranchised men will reduce their ambitions to only the bare minimum that makes them happy (i.e. only enough for a simple living + hobbies). This means less taxes that the government can use in social services to benefit women (who are net consumers of tax money, unlike men).
There is also the issue of sexbots. The technology most likely to keep many men as occupied complacent taxpayers, however women are already threatening to ban them. Thus men will just move to the countries where they aren't illegal, further eroding the taxbase.

In addition to what others have mentioned, men are in a flux right now. Profound relationship is becoming rare and it's easier for women to hook-up/have a ONS than it is for a man. A good-looking, normal, 20 something guy will score with 2-3 girls a month if he has a healthy social life. A good-looking, normal, 20 something girl will be able to score as many as 15-20 guys a month if she gets to work.
From what I've seen, not research-backed or anything, men in their 20s live with their parents more these days. The millennials are the generation who have lived the longest with their parents/in their parents' house. They don't enjoy as much financial and social independence as a 20 something from the 80s or 90s or even the 2000s.
Most middle class men don't enjoy financial independence until they're in their 30s or 40s because of how the job market is today. At college level, or high school, good-looks and charm might be enough to attract women, but once you're out of college, good-looks alone won't be enough. It will help you hook-up or have ONS but not everyone is looking for that, and still, it's not as convenient as it is when you're in college. Then, not everyone is good-looking enough to pass the 3 second test.
Accessibility is a major factor. With these dating apps, as someone else mentioned, men are competing against the cream of the crop. The sexiest or cutest boy in Baker Street is suddenly only a 6/10 when up against guys from a big city.
And, women have a herd mentality. You may look like Brad Pitt in his younger days, be as profound as Aristotle, as funny as Jim Carrey, and as intelligent as Einstein, if women don't see other women hovering around you, chances are you won't find a catch as easily because that's how women roll. They don't have objective judgment. They go by general consensus. So if they see 10 women around the ugliest man, and see no women around this handsome God, they'd be gravitated towards the ugly man because of herd mentality. Of course, if they see that you're loaded, it's another ball game. ;)
Lastly, implications. Everything works against the man. If the girl is pregnant and wants to have a baby, who will have to pay? If your co-worker and you get drunk in an office party, and end up sleeping at your house, she could turn the tables tomorrow and claim that she has no idea of the night, she was drunk, and you had sex with her without her conscious consent. Bam! In one instance, you're fired. You're a rapist. And, even if you come out of it all unscathed, you'll find it difficult to land lucrative jobs because of that stain.

The rate for women has barely shifted in 30 years, yet the rate for men nearly doubled (from about ~15% to 28%).
The first obvious takeaway is that the women are basically unaffected while more men are opting out, meaning that women are having the same amount of sex but just with a smaller group of men (relatively speaking). In other words, basically providing more proof of the 80/20 rule where the women shuffle around the Chads. This graph just shows "sex within the past year" so a guy having sex exactly once over the past year would be negative, just like a woman who had sex once every day.
The second more subtle takeaway is how it's phrased. "Men driving the decline in sex", as if it's somehow men's fault. Of course these cucks would phrase it like that because no matter what it's always men's fault. This last change since 2012. Pretty defenately, dating apps popularity is a big factor. I come from a pre Tinder/dating apps time; and online dating was still seen as for losers back then.
