I know its just a joke but I really think alcohol is the enemy of a proper MGTOW. Alcohol is just another means of control. I want to go my own way in more ways then just women and marriage. I woke up from my drunken haze a few months ago and I'm never going back. Alcohol literally fucks with your brain.

I think MGTOW is about going your own way and becoming the very best version of yourself according to your own aspirations. Not letting societal norms like marriage, drinking, and the like cloud your judgement. It about reaching the highest levels of introspection and happiness.

I workout because I want to look my best and feel good. I work hard at my job now so I can work my way to financial freedom which is basically my life goal. For me alcohol is just a financial and emotional time sink. I'd rather face life as it is and conquer it head on. That's part of being a mgtow, seeing life and relationships for what they are. My brain and my life are much more free when I stay away from alcohol.

How society views marriage and booze compared to reality is very similar. Everyone does it. They fuck up so many lives. Constantly romanticized in media. If you don't follow the norm you get questioned.

PS I used to be a highly functioning alcoholic. I know most of you probably drink. But why? Is it really fun and relaxing? I can't do moderation so I might be way off. I drank to avoid reality. Now I see getting drunk as equal to a simp in a one sided relationship with a woman.

You can enjoy alcohol without getting drunk. The fact you drink less of it means you can get better but more expensive drinks.

Same with food. For example good chocolate from a chocolatier is way ahead of what you'll find in your supermarket. But the price usually make it something you eat with moderation.

I have been an extremely heavy weekend binge drinker and I have also had years of being completely sober. There’s really not much difference except for my weekends are more productive cause I don’t spend Saturday and Sunday morning as a hungover slug. This myth about how being sober gives u “mental clarity” and everything changes is total horseshit. I havnt felt that at all.

I was a weekend bigne drinker and being sober DEFINITELY gives me clarity. Especially come monday morning when it is time to get serious about the week. The fog is real for some folks.

'Moderation' and 'self control' are the key concepts. If someone can't manage that, then I agree, avoid it entirely. Many of us can enjoy a beer or two at the end of the day without problems or addictions.

I hate alcohol but I do smoke/vape marijuana with regularity (in a productive/beneficial way though; I don't just get high, watch tv and binge eat- I play my drums, do chores, work out, go hiking write, etc) (well I do the watch tv and binge eat thing once a week).

I admit that I do smoke pot as well. I know it might not seem intellectually honest given my opinion on alcohol but I think I can make an argument for it for me at this time.

For one I believe everyone has their own definition of what mgtow means to them and what they want to do. Some might see being free to get shitfaced and high as hell as a way of going their own way as their woman would never allow it.

But to me it comes down to the motivation. Answering the question of why am I doing this. Why am I getting married? Why am I engaging in this relationship? Why am I drinking? Why am I smoking? Is it because of social pressure? Is it to have fun? Is it relaxing? Am I trying to escape my reality? Will this improve my life and help me to reach my goals?

Smoking for me really is relaxing. Simple as that. I find that at least at the moment it is helping me to reach my goals. Until my goals change or my smoking habit changes I don't see the problem. Smoking doesn't consume my life the way alcohol used to. Sometimes I have a smoke while browsing reddit before bed.

I also think you need to stay vigilante and continue to evaluate your goals. My ultimate goal is financial freedom and personal happiness getting to the point where I'm content. Of course I may never reach my final landmark but the act of trying is what matters most. Is what I'm doing contributing to my goal. Smoking pot to wind down after a long day before bed is definitely working for me.

If you can't do moderation then total avoidance of alcohol is definitely the way to go. It's pleasant to have a drink or two after a hard day's work. But I enjoy my peaceful early mornings too much to want to deal with even a light hangover.

I haven't been drunk in probably over five years. I do like to get high and work on my artwork. Been doing that since I dropped out of college, Im not going to stop now. Spent over 8 hours doing just that last night til 2AM and now Im feeling immense pride with the results.

I just drink a bit of vodka every now and then. But i never got drunk.

Though yeah i went to a pub once with some friends and someone asked me why I didn't order a drink and i just didn't feel like it yet. Dunno why there's this culture of drinking heavily.

Also, other than working out, you should try fasting/intermittent fasting, cold showers/sauna, meditation and maybe low carb, healthy fat diet. Just saying, might sound a bit restrictive, but it just feels chill as fuck and good. And you don't have to do it all the time I think.

I replied about it above. My view on alcohol is influenced by the experience I've had with it. So I guess I would have to admit that a beer here and there shouldn't be big deal for some. But I see drinking as a problem that really traps your mind and reality in so many ways. Even for people who say they can moderate.

Above I'm commenting from a viewpoint of not being a pothead. And believe me I used to be a pothead, very little difference from a drunk imo. I have not decided whether I will quit pot entirely in the future. I do truly believe it is helping me to achieve my goals right now. I like the creativity and relaxtion that I get from it once in a while.

There are some definite similarities between the two drugs though, so honestly I'm not sure how sound my analysis is but I can only speak on my experience.

All of my most memorable adventures involved alcohol. My life would have been boring as fuck without it.

Nowadays I like to drink a couple bottles of red wine once or maybe twice a week. Sure, that's binge drinking, but I drink to get drunk, otherwise what's the use of drinking booze? I love getting drunk, but I can also go months without drinking if I choose to (which I have done in the past).

My father's over 80 and drinks a flask of rye whiskey every night, which is much less than he used to, lol.

Unlike drugs like heroin, where users always seem to be chasing their first high, a bottle of wine will give me the same fix it gave me 25 years ago (actually better because I know how much I can handle now without feeling like shit the next day). And you know what? I don't usually get woodies during the night when I'm sober, but after drinking a bottle or two of red wine, I have woodies all night; that seems to indicate a flushing of the vascular system, which can't be a bad thing for old fuckers like me with cholesterol-clogged arteries (not really, I take nattokinase every day...look it up....works for blood pressure management too). Fucking red wine, it's some good shit! Best sex I've ever had was red wine sex!

I don't regret a damn drink ever! I did some fucking crazy ass shit while drunk, but boy oh boy, it was an adventure that's for sure!

Drink or don't drink, but I think we're all big boys here and can make up our own minds, thank you very much.
