Recently, my dad got accepted in a new tech company. He's had 30 years of experience as a sales manager and a project manager. He has dealt with workers who slack off or have unfinished assignments. What especially annoys him the most is the typical University student that just got hired and takes everything easy.

So recently, a 24 year old female got hired fresh out of University. My dad was in charge of a sales project so he told the new worker to simply make a basic Facebook page, write some Twitter announcements to promote a product, and print flyers for an upcoming Tech Presentation. Not a hard task for a fresh hire.

A week had passed. My dad and his team were wrapping up the project. He checked on the female worker's work and...not a single step was done. Apparently she was 'busy' with other real life problems. Everytime my dad kept reminding her, she just kept saying that she would get to it. Dad would always tell me he would check on her and she would always be on her phone or try to sneak out of the company for 'lunch break'. My dad's experience working in companies in the 70s and 80s was that if the boss had to even remind you once to finish an assignment...you were IMMEDIATELY kicked out. If you made ONE mistake, you were out. Companies can't risk one mistake otherwise they would lose to their competitors.

My dad was furious and scolds her for not managing to finish a simple assignment. He then does the work by himself and finishes the work within 20 minutes and reports this to the boss. Of course, my dad gets in trouble for getting mad at the female worker. "She's new, she hasn't had much experience working before. You have to learn to take people's feelings into account otherwise the company is not going to do well".

My dad was just furious. "If you want the company to do well, then make sure everyone is doing their job and get rid of anyone who isn't contributing". "If you want to complain about hurt feelings, don't do it at a company where money is at stake". I then just told my dad, "well this is the direction we are going in".
