I am very glad you had such a warm and close relationship with you dad. I'm going to find out where mine is buried so I can shit on his tombstone. My point is to remember HIM not the pain of the loss, remember his smile, his laugh, remember anything embarrassing like if he ever caught you drinking,smoking or beating off. Remember his advice and it will lesson the pain of the loss. May you find peace.

He knows how you felt, I am sure. My parents both were suffering from dementia so severely they didn't know me or my siblings. Neither died alone though and I gotta think that is how they wanting it. Right now you are feeling lost, but I will tell you that when you are alone and it is completely quiet. Your Dad will still communicate with you. You have to listen for him. He's still there for you.

Happened to me also seems like yesterday... I knew it was gonna hurt a lot but actually it was even worse than I thought. They don’t even have to be a perfect dad for it to hurt like hell, just knowing he cared and did what he could. Peace be with you.

God bless you, brother. I know what you're feeling. I feel his love in different ways, and take motivation from his life and what he taught me to make myself a better man - and also to savor my health and happiness.

There will probably always be a sense of loss, and lack, and hurt, but over time you will feel a strength building inside you, from God and your Father's love and support.

I'm sorry my brother, there are no words for times like these. This hits me close to home as my father has become ill recently. I dont know the answer but live best you can, remember all the good and all the things you learned through him and use those tools to become the best man that you can. That's the best way I can think to honor the real dads out there that deserve so much more than they may have gotten from this world.
