What if: Consciousness is conserved like any other energy. What if large organizations acquire some form of consciousness of their own by stealing it from its members. Just as your brain is made of organized cells, government is formed of organized humans. What if, by being part of such an organization, you LOSE some of YOUR consciousness, or free will and common sense etc, just as your brain's cells are not actually free. Could it explain how government and corporate workers are so brain dead and able to execute the most stupid actions in the name of government, while people outside that organization can clearly see the action is idiotic. The government beast created from the sum of human members may not be any more intelligent than a slug, seeking to acquire power and not interested in the happiness of individual 'cells' (humans) making it up. We believe there are some elites at the top forcing government to do stuff that no person in the entire country wants... But what if the elite are just important cells in the government brain, not actually the driving force? It makes you think, and as far as I can tell this theory is one of the best candidates to explain human macro behavior. We're smart as individuals but our societies are no smarter than bacteria. Since moving to the desert and now having very little interaction with organizations or society, I feel a kind of refreshment and joy that feels like a slave escaping to some kind of paradise. I'm going to contribute as little as I can to any kind of organization with rules and mechanisms for the rest of my life, just in case I'm right about this wacky theory!
