Jesus dude you sound so bitter. Calm down.
I've got money put aside. She doesn't know that nor know how much. I do know however if she or one of the kids needed it in a dire emergency situation, it would be there for us.

Thank you for your response; I hope you don't mind if I don't go into too much detail regarding my cancer just yet. It doesn't have a cure but it can be maintained for a good few years (decades) yet. Also as I said before, I'm doing a great job of living with it three years in. Early days I know but I don't see myself as being a victim just yet.
I posted this above (or below, no idea how others view the page) "On a side note, since posting this tonight, I have outright told her to cut it out. I wasn't mean or aggressive, I just told her about what she did, how it made me feel and how I don't appreciate that sort of behaviour from her. Short and to the point without whining basically. She apologised. Cried about her behaviour (no comment from me, I left her to it) and she's now baking me cookies to apologise. No idea if this is going to work or not. Time will tell if it happens again"
I have ignored her behaviour in the past and she still continued with it so now I wonder if simply calling her out on it will work. It may, it may not. I don't think that its the reaction she wanted but it could be the reaction she deserves. She couldn't apologise enough that's for sure but we will see if that changes things long term or is just a way for her to deflect being called out.

I really need to master that one raised eyebrow look don't I? Seriously though I agree with what you're saying and will be watching to see if she messes up again.

No worries about being blunt. I posted this above to answer a very similar question "She doesn't actually know how much I have tucked away as I use an overseas back account for various reasons. She knows that I make enough now and that between us (she has a great job too) we've paid off the mortgage and upgraded the house in the last couple of years. I'm also fairly new to this country so I don't own many things over here."
She doesn't know I have money, she doesn't expect money and I sure don't have many assets over here that she doesn't have already. I could be completely wrong of course but that's just what I know so far.

Bumping this post.
"Why would I care?" Well, clearly you know why YOU would care. The real question is "Why are you telling me this?" Which is rephrased as "Why does she still remember him?" Why does SHE care?
I think a lot of the best insights here are learned by trusting your observations and not what women say. What's your gut telling you here? What would you deduce from your observations that you're afraid to state out loud? Maybe you're a pasty cancer patient and she wants a tanned, ripped dude. Acknowledge that gut observation, the cancer situation is outside your control but you can make some adjustments on the margins. Frankly I wouldn't tolerate that comment ever. That's the equivalent of me saying I like a type of woman that my wife is not... can you understand the disrespect there? In front of your face? In front of company? Christ man...
If she's crushing over an effeminate actor, remember that isn't where she gets her tingles. She gets tingles from strong, consistent, providing behaviors which sounds like you're biggest shortcoming. Still, read up on "comfort tests"; they're opportunities to get her feeling considered and cared about.
But mostly it sounds like you need to figure out how to be stronger in her eyes despite the cancer. Logically you get a handicap for being so fucking strong and standing up to cancer right? But we're talking about subconscious attraction and that reptilian brain doesn't give a shit about your cancer handicap. I'd say frame up and start working on acing every shit test. You'll get your body back when you put this cancer in remission.
What else is going on?

Many thanks for that advice. I think my gut feeling is that I'm not her type of man and that while she clearly loves me, she still prefers another look. In this case the skinny, effeminate man look seems to be her thing (I once saw photos of all her exes and most of them fit that look). For me I've been lifting way before any of the cancer and still continue to do so now so I'm fairly ripped in that regard. I also continue to be active in looking after the house, having great sex, taking control of situations. She puts me in the aplha position in all other aspects and honestly to look at me you would never think I was getting sick.
But yeah, at the back of my mind I know I have a disease and I think that these skinny, effeminate man hark back to her youth when life was more carefree, when she didn't have a man who could end up needing a lot of care someday. I think that sometimes these shit tests are more her being naive than vicious. I shall read up on these comfort tests too.

Hey,
I'm a MRP lurker but wanted to write you.
I know about the cancer experience, it's hard. Not sure what type you have but it sounds like you are doing well.
Women have no remorse for mens weakness, even for something as bad as cancer, it gets worse with time. It's hard to accept. They almost pity you which is really tough for a man, esp a patriarch.
I'm leaning in here but she may be having a hard time with you having the disease, and comparing you to men she sees around her. She wants you be to strong again and a "top man". She might be telling you something covertly or subconsciously (unknowingly), that she misses the disease-free man you were. Despite doing well, you're not of normal looks or strength.
It's not an optimal time, as you have self esteem issues, but she's feeling that too I'm sure.
How to respond: This is definitely tough in your situation using dread, or removal of attention. I would not fuss about it, or let her see it gets to you.
Could you give her a quick smirk/chuckle, slap her ass and say "that's nice dear"?

Thank you for taking the time to write and I really appreciate your advice. The humorous response is something I have used in the past with these comments. When it comes to how she likes her coffee my response has been “well if only you could find one who would settle for a single mom with a mortgage” and that shut her up quick. Other times I have ignored her which has led her to asking what she did wrong like a child seeking attention.
On a side note, since posting this tonight, I have outright told her to cut it out. I wasn't mean or aggressive, I just told her about what she did, how it made me feel and how I don't appreciate that sort of behaviour from her. Short and to the point without whining basically. That's certainly worth thinking about but I'd be very surprised if it were the case. She's never once expected me to provide anything and she's not expecting anything from me when I die. Those are just my assumptions though, there is always room to be wrong.

I wouldn't say that I avoid her kids but more so they don't need me to be a surrogate father. They're both older teenagers, they work part time jobs for the things they want and their grandparents left them a lot of college money. I still buy them Birthday and Christmas presents of course, we still go out them and I to see a movie on occasion and I'm always there if they need advice or experience. It's just that they don't need me as a dad if that makes sense? I'd like to be but I came into their lives a bit too late for that I think.
House wise it was hers before it was ours. She had most things paid off but with two pay checks coming it we sped things up and were able to get the redecorating/refurnishing a few years earlier than planned.

Some of us like to be or want to be fathers. My biological dad abandoned us as babies and then later my mom married a guy with no kids. He raised us and he gets immense joy out of being our "real" dad.
