I am supposed to lead a discussion tomorrow in my Psychology tutorial on the topic of "learning", which is supposed to be centered around this article titled "What Shamu Taught Me About a Happy Marriage".

I can't help but be a little offended while reading it. It seems wrong to compare your husband to a wild animal who needs "training (although I find this article takes a less offensive approach than most do about this topic. Mostly the ones I see in magazines like Cosmo with titles like "How to Train Your Man in 3 Easy Weeks!" or something equally misandrist).

However, while I am offended by this article, the rational part of me asks what's wrong with getting your significant other to pick up their clothes or help around the house? Is trying to change something you see as negative in your partner really such a crime? Especially if (according to the author) it has alleviated tensions around the house.

I guess what it really is that offends me is not the act of trying to change certain aspects of your significant other, but the fact that this is compared to training monkeys, dolphins, birds, etc. Especially with comments such as "I felt as if I should throw him a mackerel". Also the fact that if the genders were reversed, and it was a male author writing about methods of "training" his wife, there would massive outcry from the feminist population.

I was wondering where MensRights stands on issues such as this, is this a legitimate "men's issue"? Or is that making mountains out of mole hills?
