"Emotional labor": pretty much just housework. According to the author, she is the backbone of her household as the stay-at-home mom, while her husband does nothing demanding (besides having a job and being the breadwinner).

Some highlights:

asked for one thing: a house cleaning service.

Delegating work to other people, i.e. telling him to do something he should instinctively know to do, is exhausting.

the mental load bore almost exclusively by women translates into a deep gender inequality that is hard to shake on the personal level.

I’m also more skilled at emotional labor on the whole because I’ve had my entire life to practice it. [...] Our sons can still learn to carry their own weight. Our daughter can learn to not carry other’s.

In summary: my choice to stay at home doing housework is a form of gender inequality. Husbands that work to make money for the entire family are inconsiderate.

Most families I know of have both wife and husband working by day and doing housework together by night. This practice brings in double the income and no feelings of inequality. And despite nobody dedicating their entire wake hours to cleaning, and even without a maid, these families get by smoothly. Amazing, right? Dinner and dishes everyday, full house cleaning once every two months.
