A very long time ago when I first became interested in this topic I did a deep dive into feminist slogans, statistics, studies, books, and narratives. It was sobering. They were all cooked. Surveys designed to come to a conclusion. Numbers and context purposefully omitted to paint a specific picture. When data couldn't be coaxed into supporting the narrative it was simply trashed.

They would claim to care about this great injustice which was real, while at the same time actively investing numbers and ignoring all evidence that directly contradicted their belief. That's all this debate, discussion, and study is for them - a means to an end. It doesn't matter if it's true or not as long as it keeps the game going.

The playbook hasn't changed in decades. They simply coast by on the women are wonderful effect, in group bias, and the profound sympathy that both men and women have for women's grievances.

Great thread. I ran into exactly this problem when trying to find the original source of the oft quoted stats about women making 85% of household buying decisions. The stat pops up a lot, but often without a citation. When there is a source, it is often just another article mentioning the same stat but without an original source. I did manage to find one study that suggested this was based on a survey of women, with 85% feeling like they had a say in household buying decisions. For me, this stat is really important because it is the reason so many consumer goods companies now prioritize women. I'd just like to see the original study. Does anyone know the source?

Take that same 1991 Bangladesh cyclone. Warnings didn’t reach many women, and cultural norms kept them at home. The result? Far more women died than men.
Now compare that to a similar storm: Cyclone Sidr in 2007. By then, Bangladesh had learned hard lessons and invested in women as community educators and first responders. Early warning systems improved. Shelters became more accessible. And the result? The death toll – and the gender gap – dropped dramatically.

There's at least a 10x death toll difference between the two disasters. If you truly think that it was women in those places that changed the outcome and not the 16 year gap of extreme economic and educational growth of Bangladesh, then you're very stupid.
