Only a man would say a woman is in a reasonably safe area. A woman is never safe, especially broken down and alone.

Men are actually at more risk for violent crime in all types of situations. A man broken down in her exact same situation is at more risk than she is. Full stop. If this fact - backed by all numbers and statistics - challenges your intuition then you've been propagandized.

I have no idea why any man would ever post on AITA. It's been proven time and again with gender swapped stories that sub will crucify a man for situations where it gives women a total pass. Bro it’s about the perception of priorities. For him, the situation doesn’t require immediate attention. For her it does, which is why she’s upset because his priorities are #1 eat, #2 go help her.

Deep down she does not value his time and who he is as a man. If she did, she would be grateful he showed up at all, regardless of taking 15min longer

Woman here, just stumbled across this sub (dont beat me up too much, as a person not because im a girl). So, I think it was the "I'll be right there" that got him. I am all about mens rights, truly, but I think communication should still exist. He could've said "gonna grab a bite, and then be right there". With that, her response was over the top, and leans into guys seeing us as hysterical or over the top. So, girl chill, dude say youre gonna eat.

Okay, ive taken some heat on this one. Like I said, I know what sub Im in. I, personally, think that the OP from AITA could've just said "gonna grab food first" 15 minutes, or one hour, its just common respect in a relationship. The comment section piling on him, its messed up because no he doesn't owe her anything and if I take his post as 100% factual (unlikely, not because he's male but because its AITA) he arrived in a reasonable amount of time, and his GF over reacted. With the "owing" my defense of her isn't because were both women, its basic respect. I dont know how guys think on this, and won't pretend to, but if someone told ya theyre on their way, I would think you'd believe theyre on their way. Like I first said, dude say a couple more words, there's nothing wrong with that, girl settle down its not the end of the world

I think that the best course of action he could have done during phone call was to inform her that he was far away & it might take him 1 hour at least to reach there. This would have been better for both sides:-

1) She would be motivated to seek help from others. (Like she even did in this case)

2) He could finish his food & reach there. And...he could avoid all of her eternal nagging about this subject in all future arguments.

When I was in college, my girlfriend had just learned how to drive and got a flat tire like both one block from home and also like 50 feet from a tire store. But she was a new driver and freaked out and called me all upset. But she grew up in a city where people didn't need to drive and so she never had much experience with it. So for her, that was a big crisis situation.

Anyway, my point is, for his girlfiend, this might have been a very scary experience. And from his perspective, she was quite safe. But from her perspective she communicated to him that she had a crisis and he didn't treat it as a priority. So, now how does she know if there is a real crisis if he will do the same? He was assesing it like it was just about fixing her car. But it was in fact about calming her down and making her feel loved. And, while he might not be an asshole, he apparently didn't do the best job at that in this case.

I'm not a woman. But if I heard I'm on my way or something urgent like that, I'd just wait. But if they said I'd be there in an hour or two, I'd be trying to figure something out, or asking for help.

One is trusting someone enough to wait, and another is trying to fix the issue myself or get help while I wait. I've been hungry before... Now if I was so hungry I can't see or stand, that's different.

I don't know what his girlfriend is capable of. Maybe she could have figured it out, maybe she could have bought a jump starter kit nearby and jumped herself. Maybe gas stations should sell that crap. But the emotional difference between "my boyfriend is coming" and "I'm on my own for a while" is something that needs to be stated.

My dad is like the guy. So if I ask for anything, I'm not expecting it NOW. My dad's not being an asshole though... He's just like that with everything, doesn't matter what it is. I could tell him he won a house and he'd come late and I don't lie.

I did know a couple of women who would at least come and get me if they couldn't jump the car... Heck, there were some who would bother their husbands to do it. Girls who care about you will move the world. So if she was like that, I definitely understand the frustration.

That being said... that is not a universal truth, just a predominant one. There, of course, are plenty of sane and reasonably-minded individuals of both sexes; with occasional variances of degree.

In full disclosure, I've not read the original post linked. However, I can see it being a bit of a dick move IF (for instance) the gf was running late for work or an otherwise important appointment somewhere, etc., and the car issue was completely unexpected as many such cases typically can be.

Now, it is also true that some people are semi-borderline- if not actually OCD about getting places early by an unreasonable amount of time. If that was perhaps the case by some measure, the guy could possibly even have offered to give her a ride, and drop her off. Then, of course, as the BF he'd also take on the responsibility of picking her up timely and safely, etc.

Sometimes the entire battery jumping procedure can take a while, and if she was cutting it close for time, the getting a ride part (if only for that occasion) would've likely been the best move for the sake of time. Then the battery jump could hypothetically have happened either while she was away and/or after she got back.

🤷‍♂️ Lots of potential options for how to handle that.

Be that as it may, from a human perspective, I can understand the 'berating' comments... though I can also see it's likely that most were doing the typical social media thing of the knee-jerk, hive-mind "yeah, get 'em!" sort of responses. Whatever the case and from whatever motivation, it (as true with most of life) certainly could've been handled better across the board.

This is where it gets tricky.

If there is an underlying understanding that they are in a trad relationship with trad roles…then yes, he’s an a-hole, and expected to grab a banana/apple or bar and haul his a$$ over. It’s partly her right to consider herself a helpless damsel in distress, and for him to run over and help.

If the woman is a feminist and demands “equal treatment” and division of labor constantly, then…maybe not. He’s not an asshole for taking a few mins for himself. He should still have communicated his ETA though, not said “I’ll be right there”.

Whether you are an a-hole or not depends on whether the relationship subscribes to traditional or modern values.
