Let me explain:

I am in love with a girl, and she wants to get married to me. She's actually pretty special, and I have strong feelings that I would, in fact, like to build a home with her.

However, I have also been spending time here on /MR, and I have learned things that fucking horrify me. So many men, more than HALF, end up divorced and paying alimony to a woman who hates him. And most of the time, Its the woman who leaves, and the man has no recourse...

So, If I marry this girl, the nature of the relationship changes, instantly. She IMMEDIATELY has so much more power in the relationship, that I fear that I will become afraid of her: Afraid of angering her, of giving her an excuse/reason to leave and take my income with her.

This is not to say that I think she is lying about her love for me - She really, truly does. But its like that episode of STNNG (yes im a geek, its reddit, what do you want) where riker becomes omnipotent - the power corrupts his best intentions, and he becomes little better than Q himself. My girl (now theoretical wife) will slowly realize the power she has over me, and it will poison everything we do. So, it's kinda over beffore it begins....

And god HELP me if we have kids. I want kids SO badly, and she wants to give them to me. But i know that the chances of being a part of my kids life (except as a check) will be close to NIL if we get divorced (and remember, thats greater than 50% chance we will). That would grind my soul into powder...

Do any other guys out there kinda wish they DIDN"T know about how most marriages end, so that they could enjoy the time they DID get to be married?

BTW - I'm looking for replies from men here - for obvious reasons. Replies from women stating "OMG - you are so bitter! you should just marry anyway because giving your money to a woman is an inherently good deed" will be ignored and downvoted.
