My brother got deported from Canada because he crossed the border to use a charging station right with his daughter with him and didn't have a notarized note from the mother that he was allowed to do that. His wife could have done it with zero issues.

He got deported because his wife wouldn't pick up the phone for the strange number that the border police were calling from. (Not blaming her, I'm the same way, it was just bad luck for my brother. He couldn't call her himself because he was being kept in a holding cell).

One would expect more gender-neutral language from a government spearheaded by a progressive like Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Would one? I tend to think one would not.

The Income Tax Act allows for the female parent to declare that the male parent is primarily responsible for the care and upbringing of all children in their household.

How generous of them to allow a father to get permission for what would be equality, but if you need a written letter, it's not equality.

But they didn't think of the loophole that Canada allows anyone to pick their gender, unless I'm mistaken. Can the father simply state he is female?

Why is there a concept for a primary caregiver, anyway? It really shouldn't matter who stays at home with the kid, if somebody does, or just spends more time with them or whatever the criteria are, that alone doesn't and shouldn't mean that the other parent is not as important and doesn't care for the kid in every way possible.

I’m a married dad. My kids are young. One is in kindergarten and the other is a toddler.

My wife began a career as a federal employee and I’ve been the main caretaker of the kids and home ever since. I support my wife’s career and she’s super happy about it and loves her job and the pay is amazing. Basically, she (and we) are set for life.

But she also receives CCB by virtue of vagina.

I refuse to submit a letter of permission to get the CCB in my name, out of principle. I’m a fucking adult. I don’t need my wife to sign letters for me.

We’re both pissed about this, but she gets my point.

I once read somewhere that this is a CRA regulation because the original legislation didn’t mention anything about the details of distribution, and CRA workers are a bunch of fuckholes who should be shot and their corpses shit on anyways.

Every time I see stories about this kind of blatant sexist discrimination, I'm relieved its somewhere else and not in the U.S. I keep saying it, but I know time is running out. Biden, and Harris are winding up.

I used to have a friend with several nieces and nephews. Her dad loved all of his grandkids but would occasionally say he really only knew the ones from his daughter were his actual grandkids. The optimist in me hopes that moreso than sexism or discrimination against same sex couples this is a hat tip to the possibility that many men are raising a kid that's not theirs. FWIW as a US citizen I'd swallow a bit of sexism to get more than 1200 + 500 in a pandemic
