Lead researcher Katrien Stevens pointed to a study using U.S. data that found that men are more likely than women to negotiate when it is not explicitly made known that wages are negotiable.

Basically women are less likely to negotiate when it is not explicitly said.

When it is explicit they negotiate as much as men.

To a degree. But if you normalize for other things the pay gap almost disappears. In my industry the problem is reversed because every company is chaising after a small pool of female engineers to improve diversity... And they are in high demand.

No. It’s because the higher paying riskier jobs are taken by men. Women are risk adverse. FIFO job in some hot isolated desolate place where it’s 100F per day? Something that is never looked at is the gender cost gap. It is more expensive for a man to eat because he has to eat about 20% more food/calories than a woman. Of course, these are just averages, but imagine if it were the other way around.

The wage gap exists for one reason. Male sexual market value is largely dependent on professional status, because males are providers and female sexual market value isn't because females are provided for as birth-givers. Anyone who thinks society can engineer this principle out of existence is completely, and dangerously, wrong.

I dunno I'm a bit of a pushover myself and could prob drive a harder bargain, so it's definitely not a female only thing. Some females can be pretty take the bull by the horns type Maybr on average guys can be a bit more confrontational.. personally i hate it, but can't blame that on others. Would be nice if wages were more transparent and not based on bargaining power

There are many reasons why the gender pay gap exists, you named a few of them. Other factors include that men tend to pick more technology oriented jobs that tend to pay.

Men work longer in the week so to average it out to the same hours worked is a lie.

Men work in jobs 13 times more likely to kill then so those jobs pay higher.

Go work in the sane jobs for the sane length of time and earnings will be the same.

It’s not. There’s a wage gap because women take maternity leave for 6+ months. So that shows up on gender wage and it shows a wage gap. There’s no difference in payment, that is a hoax
