There is a difference between defending your country, freedom and family from agressors and politicians deciding to attack a sovereign country for economical gain.

I won't go to war for anyone's financial gain but will gladly defend my country if attacked. They are often called terrorists nowadays.

Draft dodging is not only justified, its morally correct.

The draft is just a nice way of saying "you will join our slave army, if you resist in any way you will be punished."

It’s not even fear of dying in many cases. There is no war the US could ever prosecute which is worth ending ones life for.

There is no cause in the last 70 years of American warfare which had been a justified waste of human life.

It's not all about the fear of death. There is also not wanting to be in the situation where you may have to kill someone else. Some don't want to live in the mud. Some feel being a soldier is to live as a second class citizen, there is an old saying " soldiers and dogs, keep off the grass." Sometimes life in the military can be miserable, and people have heard that, or they think it's all about being a mindless drone.

I'm thankful that some countries have been able to get away from the draft, but there are some that need it. Shaming people who avoid it in those countries can be more of a grey area where they may think someone useless in a time of emergency, or that the ones who served shouldered a responsibility that they didn't want, so why can't everyone else who is required to.

If you are talking more like avoiding Vietnam, I have quite a bit of sympathy for those who avoided that war. Why should they fight someone else's war? But, at the same time I can understand why someone who went and didn't want to go could look down on someone who actively avoided going.

 I know how you feel. It is (Can't Say That) stupid that men get shamed for trying to dodge the draft. Seriously, I don't get it either, why don't women get included in the draft? The majority of them act like they are vastly superior to men, so why not include them? Not trying to be sexist, but speaking of the majority, women outnumber men of a ratio (From the last I checked) of 55:45. They are already trying to take men's jobs and put them in bad stereotypes, so why not add them ti this job. I am about the fill out this thing soon, but I wish I had the cash to dodge. For me the draft is kind of stupid. If a nation cannot get enough people to voluntarily fight a war, then either the war isn’t worth fighting for or the country isn’t worth fighting for. Either way you’re making a choice.

But that doesn’t change the fact that when the draft comes calling, you should go. You reap the untold benefits of the country you live in, but won’t fight for it, seems a bit hypocritical. There’s many jobs in the military that aren’t combat arms, so waste 3 years of your life in service to others.

Totally against a draft of any kind whether men or woman. As a combat veteran the idea of going into a dangerous situation with someone who was forced to be there is terrifying. Forcing unwilling people into the military would just lead to additional unnecessary casualties.

Vietnam was a heavily immoral war as well... sending kids to die overseas simply to stop a country from having a specific economic system? Women are always talking about how men need to do the right thing... not participating in imperialist wars seems right to me

Honestly in my country, even if u do go for conscription, you’re treated like a 2nd class citizen during conscription (cases of people shaming soldiers for sitting on seats in public transport or when their domestic helper carries their bag for them home).

I guess this is something my country should learn from the US, how they really respect their soldiers.

In the end all wars on this world are caused by first world countries. Do you really think they pay third world countries there the same price for products as here? They would have enough money to solve most of their problems and the ISS would have way less control.
