Great, and they don't make it into a big deal that it is a dad doing the household chores instead of a mom; It just played of and comes across natural. bravo to Tide

If they wanted to "mix it up" they would have had his fat lazy wife sitting on the couch watching TV with a stained t-shirt when the husband comes home from work with groceries in one hand, a baby in the other only to find piles of laundry blocking the door. "if only my wife worked as hard as Tide grime fighting detergent"

This is GREAT. I never understood why laundry and laundry commercials had to be "gendered". Hasn't any male who has gone to university or community college had to do his own laundry for 3-4 years? Even in families where the father works and the mother stays home and takes care of the house, in most cases the father/husband STILL a) likes clean clothes, b) knows its important that their kids wear clean, hygienic clothes, and c) knows how to do laundry and shop for laundry detergent.

Why detergent companies ever went out of their way to alienate that market segment in the first place is beyond me.

I'm not really for or against this commercial. It is, thankfully, a reprieve from dad as active idiot; but I can't imagine the commercial running the exact same way with mom cast as the parent and a boy as the child.

My take is that the commercial is written to be dad-positive while not threatening moms' sense of position as parental authority figure. (By this I mean the mothers watching this who might subconsciously view it with themselves projected into the position of the absent mom or even the girl).

Dad isn't the boss here. He has no active authority. His facial expressions and body language are all soft, resigned and passive. He is nice, but he's just a fluffy teddy bear with no presence of parental authority.

His daughter refuses to let him wash her dress for a week and his eventual response is to trick her into letting him do so by playing a game where she is the boss and he is under her control.

In contrast, the daughter is active, sassy, and confident in rejecting his already-resigned-to-failure attempts at asserting his authority, and then confident in asserting her own (albeit in play).

I'm usually against the whole notion that media dictates society, I still think it's the other way around. Still there is no denying that it actually has some notion of an effect since it does add to our world view. (it's a long and interesting but complex topic to discuss and this is not the time or the place).

Still I find it a step in the right direction and a touch of novelty to a fairly played out concept.

This post is exemplary of what man woman and myth called "the condition of men".

Men are so used to being treated badly, they will be grateful for bad treatment, if its not quite as bad and mis perceive it as good.

Please wake up - its another ad showing a man incompetent and humiliated in order to endear a product to the people that actually chose these products, the women of the house.
