I wanted to post about an issue in this category that I have no one to talk to about.

excessive victim-blaming

Already happens, moreso than it happens to women. A lot moreso.

unwelcome catcalling

Also happens. Not sure if more or less.

mortifyingly high rates of sexual assault and rape

Already happens. Probably at rates very similar to women.

having your value in society based exclusively on what you look like

That is true. Our value in society isn't based exclusively on what we look like.

It's based exclusively on how much money we have.

Because the objectification of women leads to all of those things. The objectification of men does not.

This is probably true. Men suffer those things just for being men - objectified or not.

[–]andejoh 11 points12 points13 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

That is true.

Actually men are objectified by their height which I think is correlated with power. The fact that there's very little a man cam do about it doesn't seem to matter.

[–]The_White_Baron 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Short guy here (5'3"). This means I'm shorter than roughly 98% of the male population in the US. There is certainly a level of objectification that occurs in dating, wherein many women would say they refuse to date a guy shorter than they are (even in heels).

I'm very picky in dating, so I totally understand where a girl is coming from there. Just like I can't choose to be taller, she can't choose to be attracted to shorter men. Like how I didn't choose to not be attracted to fat girls.

I've never felt like I was dealt a shit hand in the power game though. I've taught classes at a university and have proven myself to be a competent public speaker. What emanates more power than that?

Nobody has asserted I have a Napoleon complex. And aside from a few jokes about height, I've never had it mentions elsewhere. And I don't even mind that. Friends joke with friends about everything (race, height, weight, wealth, etc.) In fact, I'd probably be a bit offended if my friends felt they couldn't mention my height around me.

[–]RapeMatters 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Height has a lot of effects. I remember a study showing a very strong effect between height and income.

When they start writing this sort of rambling ideological bullshit it really is just time to tell them to fuck off.

There's a widely-accepted concept in academia called the male gaze

No, it's widely accepted amongst only feminist academia you fucking dolt.

[–]fengpi 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Those are the only academics who count.

And the male gazer-beam is deadly, akin to Godzilla's Tokyo-destroying atomic breath.

[–]fengpi 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Cuz girls are special, and it's cute and funny when they do stuff that they freak-out about when it is done to them.

[–]fengpi 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

any other sort of media you can think of are specifically created to satisfy a straight, male audience.

Well, except maybe for the aforementioned “Magic Mike,” Cosmo and Elite Daily which are totes okay. You'd think the author might be able to recall the examples she'd written scarcely one hundred words earlier in her own article.

hypocritical bitches and blah, blah, blah.

Irony fails to work when you sarcastically say something which is close to factual. It's almost emulating the behavior of a hypocritical bitch, IMHO.

[–]DarkDoesThings 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Oh yes, because a man's worth doesn't come down to his wallet and his ability to work dangerous jobs. His expendability, if you will.

[–]DarthCerebroX 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

His utility is how I refer to it... A man's value is based on his usefulness to women and society.

[–]DarkDoesThings 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly, I couldn't think of the word, but that is spot on.

[–]Tedesche 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This article again? You know, guys, by repeatedly posting and debunking this shit, we just keep it alive. Only feminists by into the crap it spins anyway—most people think it's perfectly fine to objectify both men and women, so long as you don't let it devalue their status as human beings.

Seriously—let it go. Let feminist garbage rot in the sun. By obsessing over it, we just stoop to their level. It's one thing to expose new feminist trash to the world, but old reposting old articles for a redux rebutting is just a circle jerk.

Girl stars at my package cause I'm freeballing in gym shorts it's no biggie, I stare at her ass in those yoga pants that she's definitely wearing to receive male attention and I'm a pervert. Those tits in that halter top is for men too.

[–]ISOanexplanation 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Lol, I love the last line in her description: "Stalk her at alexialafata.com."

Time to play red light, green light again gentlemen. You better not be tired of it because it's the ladies' favorite game.

[–]jmg83 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm not even white, but even I'm getting annoyed with all this "white guys are evil" shit.

[–]jmg83 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I know women who've turned down or dumped men because his job wasn't suitable, because he's not "ambitious" or "successful" enough. It goes both ways.

[–]Elvick 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Archive exists for this garbage so use it http://archive.is/bfTOr

edit; I love the "victim blaming" argument. "Well women are victim blamed!" This entire argument is "victim blaming" men. It's men's fault for why you objectify them, because men aren't "oppressed enough" to be victims of your actions.

"Objectification" is not a real thing unless you have outright brain damage. Our brains recognize a human being without the need to actively think about it. You don't see a human being and ever see an object. Treating someone like garbage =/= seeing them as an object. And finding someone hot before you ask them their life story is not seeing them as an object either, that's stupid.

Our brains even see faces in the inanimate. Cars, barns, the clouds, the moon. We humanize the non-human all the time. That's how hardwired we are to see this shit.

Sexualizing people is fine. What a hypocrite. Yes you're a hypocrite. Just saying you're not doesn't fly, and your shit arguments don't help any. They just make you look even worse

[–]TBFProgrammer 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Men belong to the category: object. Ergo, it is perfectly acceptable to acknowledge their object properties. This does not act upon them in any way.

Women are no different in this regard.

[–]ZimbaZumba 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is how propaganda and totalitarian control works.

If, basically through repetition of an idea, you can get people to believe obviously absurd notions, then you can get them to reflexively believe absoultely anything.

[–]xNOM 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't really see the problem with two standards. Especially when it comes to sex. Anything else would be retarded, IMO. Men and women do NOT have the same sexual psychologies or behaviours.
