Seems like a desparate move for every woman quoted in these articles to frame the posters as "rape apologies".

[–]nlakes 26 points27 points28 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

If you disagree with a feminist or their sexist campaign, you're a rape apologist. It's very simply really. Don't worry about the details, just take it on my authority as a feminist that you are.

[–]LAMFF 17 points18 points19 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Men's Rights of Edmonton needs to issue some type of hilarious press release that simultaneously mocks these feminists who are crying "rape apologist!!!" while shredding their arguments with facts. It's no longer good enough not to rape anyone, you also have to stand by while your entire gender gets smeared as sexual abusers, and just take it.

[–]EvilPundit 18 points19 points20 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I am going to look at those links, and comment wherever appropriate to bring balance to the discussion. I think that's the best course of action.

Thought I saw you in a couple of threads. ;)

[–]AndyAndrophile 35 points36 points37 points 13 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

In the video in that very first link they interview Karen Smith, the director of the Sexual Assault Centre of Edmonton who created the original bigoted "men, don't rape!" campaign, who says she's "angry and disturbed that someone would put a message like this out, because people just don't lie about [rape].".

Oh, right Karen, totally. Except when they do lie about it, like the case that happened practically right in your own fucking back yard of Edmonton where a taxi driver was falsely accused of rape by some vile cunts who wanted to get revenge on him for not letting them smoke in his cab and who the police, after being shown the video evidence that exonerated him, completely REFUSED TO PROSECUTE THE WOMEN for making a false rape accusation and simply let them walk away.

But yeah Karen, shit like that never happens, because men are bad and women are good and they don't ever lie about rape. Except when they do, again, and again, and again, and again, and the men who are falsely accused have their lives ruined. Unbefuckinglievable. Major, MAJOR props to MR Edmonton and Eric Duckman for this campaign and the disgusting misandry they've uncovered with it.

Edit: I just found that MR Edmonton has a website and you can donate to them via paypal. I'm going to do that NOW.

HEY BUT THAT IS JUSTAFEWFRINGECASESweshouldjustignoreit

[–]only_does_reposts 12 points13 points14 points 13 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

At least two of those articles are only citing prosecuted false accusations, while at the same time talking about unprosecuted AND unreported rapes.

They also didn't get an interview of any kind with anyone who supported the posters.

Totally balanced coverage.

edit: I forgot to mention we've had several topics here on this front page that mention false accusers not being prosecuted at all, something else the article completely omits.

[–]Perpetual_dissident 7 points8 points9 points 13 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

This is going to keep noisy for a while up there.

I have searched and I can't find stats on false rape allegations. Inthe comments they say it's 4-8%, but I remember of one FBI report that showed it was much higher figure.

[–]saint2e 4 points5 points6 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Take the higher ground and actually cite your sources.

For example, the Cambridge Law report, which cites any number from 2-90% is here:

http://eprints.uwe.ac.uk/6478/1/Dow

[–]HappyGerbil885 points 13 years ago* [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

Large studies have found 2-3% false, but that's pretty much just the confirmed false reports and doesn't really tell you anything about the remaining 97-98%. Taking the ~11% conviction rate as the rate of "true" accusations, you get ~2-3% false, ~11% true, and over 85% unknown. That's about as close as we can get as far as numbers go. If you simply extrapolated the 2-3% false and 11% true, you get 15-21% false. Even if you assume the unknowns are more likely to be accurate, you'd still most likely end up with double digit false reports.

[–]theskepticalidealist 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

It also assumes all reports are valid by default.

[–]Lawtonfogle 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

4% is basically the cases proven beyond a reasonable doubt. Had we used the same standard to measure rape, there would be far less rape in feminist statistics.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If we used the same measure, only 7% of rapes reported actually happened.

[–]AryoBarzan 4 points5 points6 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Great stuff! Every MRA needs to thank Men's Rights Edmonton. As time goes on, we'll be seeing more great awareness being spread on both false rape allegations and feminist bigotry. The very fact that feminists are literally tweeting these posters as evidence of "rape culture" proves how bigoted, hypocritical and idiotic feminist theory really is.

[–]Estephe 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Political correctness is offensive. Control-freak social engineer professors who take tax money and lie to students are hate-mongers. "Social justice" = Rwanda-style dumbed-down gang violence.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

We should do this across the country.

[+]anal_cyst -28 points-27 points-26 points 13 years ago (24 children) | Copy Link

why the fuck do MRA's have this hard on for false rape accusations? suicide, homelessness, workplace deaths, circumcision, and plenty of uncontroversial topics to discuss but nope. You always have to come back to the Maginot Line of gender politics.

The game isn't about right or wrong or facts or logic. gender politics is about making the other side look bad and punishing them for it. If you really wanted to get what you want you'd make a campaign against munchausen by proxy and start shaming women for smothering their babies with pillows. Then after the feminists lay down their arms in defeat, you take what you want; and if they speak up, then that means they poison helpless children for sympathy.

That's the way the game works. one of these days MRA's are going to wake up and play hardball; or realize they're wasting everyone's time and give up.

why the fuck do MRA's have this hard on for false rape accusations

Perhaps we should consult history.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXK0bfrvjPM

[+]anal_cyst -20 points-19 points-18 points 13 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

And how's that poster about false accusations working out for you? Really stopped and made them think, didn't it? It isn't like they didn't immediately dismiss it and accuse MRA's of being rape apologists.

[–]AgentmrmOrangemra[S] 6 points7 points8 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Personally, I don't give a FUCK what they call us, as long as do it over the national airwaves. Then the conversation can get started.

[+]anal_cyst -10 points-9 points-8 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

and the conversation is going to be about why you support rape.

[–]typhonblue 6 points7 points8 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Did you ever see any other poster campaign by MREdmonton covered in the mainstream media?

Nope? Why not?

[–]anal_cyst -4 points-3 points-2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

because they couldn't use it to smear MRA's.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The success of any measure is not the mainstream reaction to that measure. MRAs could cure cancer and these people at Edmonton would brand it as some monstrous act of patriarchal, rape-supporting priviledge.

[+]anal_cyst -7 points-6 points-5 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

which is why you don't waste your time trying to cure cancer.

[–]saint2e 13 points14 points15 points 13 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

"why the fuck do feminists have this hard on for rape? suicide, murders, genocide, and plenty of uncontroversial topics to discuss, but nope. You always have to come back to rape"

[+]anal_cyst -16 points-15 points-14 points 13 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

because rape is the loaded gun of gender politics and the other three happen equally or more to men?

[–]saint2e 9 points10 points11 points 13 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Careful there, studies show that males are the victim of 40% of sexual assault.

[+]anal_cyst -8 points-7 points-6 points 13 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Careful there, I never said they weren't.

[–]saint2e 5 points6 points7 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

No, you didn't explicitly. But you implied it.

[–]anal_cyst -5 points-4 points-3 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

No I didn't.

[–]Supgio -1 points0 points1 point 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes you did.

Mens' Rights Edmonton causing a HUGE Splash with Posters

That's why.

[–]Funcuz 10 points11 points12 points 13 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

The game isn't about right or wrong or facts or logic.

No , that's EXACTLY what it SHOULD be about. Just because you've been force-fed an endless stream of steaming bullshit under the guise of "equality" doesn't mean that that's how the 'game' is supposed to be played.

That's the very problem right there : If it weren't for that fact that people think it's perfectly acceptable to perpetuate and disseminate bullshit , we wouldn't have a need for this movement right now. Feminists spend most of their time making shit up and then using their lies as a cudgel to bash men over the head with. Where does it say that we have to put up with that crap ?

[+]anal_cyst -12 points-11 points-10 points 13 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

You're living in the fantasy land of "the way things should be" In the real world debate doesn't work this way. In the real world ideas are changed with emotional appeals and propaganda. The sooner you all wise up the sooner the movement can get your act together.

[–]AgentmrmOrangemra[S] 6 points7 points8 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

No shit sherlock....you are just irony in action aren't you.....we ARE causing a visceral emotional response among our enemies...the kind of shrill and pedantic bullshit response that we will just as easily point out in the same way the Toronto protests were done.

[+]anal_cyst -6 points-5 points-4 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

pissing them off isn't going to change their minds, watson. It's going to make them slander the movement. if that's what you wanted, mission accomplished.

[–]AgentmrmOrangemra[S] 4 points5 points6 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Like they weren't doing that already.....there is no middle ground here.

[–]only_does_reposts 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In the real world uncontroversial topics aren't discussed.

This brings visibility and a media spotlight, practically the only way to accomplish anything.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You don't understand how this game works.

Shatter their image. The rest will follow.

[–]MS2point0 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Then after the feminists lay down their arms in defeat
