I believe rape is so heinous of a crime, it is worth a few sacrificial pieces to completing the objective: ending one of the worst crimes of humanity, rape. Rape claims as they are, are drastically underreported and questioned too often by society. I believe if we were to really tackle the problem of rape head on, we must unconditionally believe all rape victims no matter what, even if they may appear false. If it means criminalizing some innocent men to combat rape, make it easier for women to report rape, and help gender equality on this issue I would hesitantly agree with this. Yes, rare instances of false rape do occur, I acknowledge this, however I believe if we continue to make women live in this perpetual state of fear underreporting rape we will never fix one of society’s biggest problems. It’s much like foreign policy, what do our soldiers do when we confront terrorists that hold innocent hostages? Do we let the terrorists free or do we hesitantly take down both terrorist/hostage to help prevent future victims? It’s complicated, but most of the world would tell you, it’s the latter. I do feel remorse and empathize with falsely accused men, just like how we might all feel remorse and empathize with the hostages taken by terrorists. It’s unfortunate, but I believe much like terrorists and rapists we must eradicate evil even if it means making some sacrifices.
