Your friend needs to be very careful with his relationships from now on. He should be dumping any woman the instant she gives off any sort of unstable vibe.

This is because, with his prior record, if he does end up in another abusive relationship and it escalates, he will have zero defence and likely only exit it in a body bag.

Don't sweat it. It's natural that your first reaction to having your worldview challenged is a bit of anger and indignation. Accepting that one's worldview is flawed has a cost, that being reevaluating one's life and one's choices. As such, your mind will try to prevent that cost.

Some people will accept the cost. Others won't. Something about a horse and water.... ;)

Male here. My initial reaction when seeing this subreddit was also to get pissed. I don't agree with everything that is said on this subreddit, but it does do a good job of pointing out the ways in which men face discrimination because they're men.

This is what VAWA does in its current form.

Putting aside the flawed logical and moral argument that violence against women is somehow inherently worse than violence against anyone else [and thus deserving of specific legislation/punishments,] my main issues are the standard arrest policies, and primary male aggressor policies.

A former co-worker was forced to leave the apartment that he paid for, and only his name was on the lease, because the neighbors called the cops when him and the girl he let lived with him were having a loud argument. There was no violence, and when the cops got there, she even told them there had been no violence multiple times. He was still arrested, forced to vacate his apartment for 60 days, and could only visit to get clothes/mail under police supervision. He was to have no contact with her [yet of course she let him come in and they were together as soon as he was released form jail.] Just plain silly.

Another time years ago, very good friend [male] was dating another very good friend [female,] and I'll just say both were seriously jealous and immature when they were dating. Multiple break ups, multiple cheating on both sides. She was insanely violent, to the point of breaking things [laptops, tv,] throwing pans and pots, and slapping/hitting him. He got arrested 3 times when she called the cops, she got arrested once [he finally wised up and left while she freaked out, he had visible marks/cuts, she had nothing.] They're married now with a kid on the way, 2 great jobs, and no problems. People are crazy, but the system is decidedly stacked against men, especially in research on domestic violence which routinely ignores violence that comes from both sides, or violence that comes purely from females.

You know, some of you guys don't have to be such assholes when someone says, "You have a point." It really goes a long way in getting more people to accept that there are real issues that we try to bring attention to.

I believe true wisdom comes from being able to see the view points from both sides, while removing any issue-related characteristics of yourself from the equation that would make you bias toward your final personal judgement.

No need for tit-guilt. Any guilt would most likely stem from not understanding why you were wearing bias blinders prior to hearing a story that hit home.

Most mensrights is NOT about bashing women (note: there are men that are crazies too), rather mensrights is about what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Genders cannot be equal, no more then 2 can equal 5. Therefore its not about equality.. and more about gender neutrality. Prison sentences, severity of crime, ability to perform a job, become education and anythign else should have gender removed completely. Either a 'person' (not He or she, but a person) broke the law and is guilty or not guilty, or you can or cannot do the job, etc...

People should have the same opportunities, people should have the rules, people should be held to the same accountability, morals and character, regardless of anything else.

Unfortunately I wake up most days disappointed.

You are a true feminist in that you believe in equal rights. Not that men an women are enemies but that we should fight for equality for all and against injustice regardless of gender.
