Edit: I know this is /r/MensRights :P This is an attempt for me to address feminists in a way that might not have them attacking us.

Hello,

You don't know me but you probably hate me.

Let me tell you a little about myself.

I believe in social justice and human rights.

I rallied with the local LGBT crowd in my town to help pass an

anti-discrimination ordinance. I made the video footage of the city council

meeting available to the public online.

I donate to the ACLU, HRC, public radio, innocence foundations, and others.

I'm one of the original members of our local food co-op. I helped them set up

their point of sale system using Linux. I helped them change their practices

which were slightly discriminatory towards 9-5 workers.

I run Linux, which if you don't know is free software. Free software and

social justice go hand and hand in my opinion.

I pick up litter along the highway with the local non-theist group a few times

a year. Yes, I'm an atheist.

I believe in tolerance. I do get annoyed when people reference god or the

supernatural when good or bad events happen, but I let it slide. Everyone has

a right to their own opinion.

I'm against most things that involve our military and military spending.

Oh right, I'm American. Being a citizen of the United States grants me many

unearned privileges that people in some other areas do not have.

I'm a white, heterosexual, cisgendered, male. All of these come with their

own batch of unearned privileges.

I consider myself a feminist.

I believe in inclusive gender equality for all genders regardless of which

bits you were born with or which bits you have now. Regardless of whether the

bits you have or have had match up with which gender you identify with.

Some of these things may cause you to hate me without knowing me. This isn't

the big one though.

The big reveal: I believe that both men and women have privilege. I believe

that all genders are the victims of gender discrimination. I believe that we

all have biases and that we should actively work to eliminate them.

I don't wear a fedora. I don't hate women. I am a feminist and I am also

part of the men's rights movement.

I believe that men's rights activists and feminists are working towards

the same goal. I believe that they should be allies. Yes, it is trivial to

cherry pick instances where a member of group A is attacking the entirety of

group B. Because of this, especially because of this, it is important to have

sympathy and tolerance for both groups.

Nobody is perfect. Everyone has biases. Some men who care deeply about

gender equality find feminist circles to be uncomfortable for them. Some

women who care about gender equality find MRA circles to be uncomfortable for

them. This is expected. Everyone needs a safe space.

In my opinion we should be tolerant of those whose views differ from ours. We

should look for the common ground, especially when that ground is striving for

gender equality.

In my opinion gender equality warriors should be consider themselves to be

both men's rights activists as well as feminists.

Thank you for reading. Please don't hate me. Please be tolerant of my

viewpoint and let us work together for the common good.
