The logic is that a boy born to jewish parents should have the same rights as a boy born to non jewish parents.

And note that Jewish ritual sexual mutilation specifically prohibits any attempt to reduce the pain of the amputation. These guys, are hard-core Taliban/ISIS types who specifically state that the fundamental point, or "commandment" (mitzvah) of the mutilation is to cause physical pain to the infant victim:

It is not an exception. No one has the right to perform cosmetic body modification on another person without their consent, and small children are unable to give legal consent. I see it no differently than you would see parents who want to cover their child in tattoos. You can't tattoo your child, regardless of whether it's part of your religion.

People should get to decide for themselves if their body is going to be cosmetically altered or not. No one should get to choose for someone else. Parents should not be able to circumcise, just as they cannot have their children get tattoos.

The only exception to people getting to choose for themselves is medical necessity. A parent can consent for a child who needs a medical procedure, or a doctor has the right to amputate part of a leg of a patient who was in a car crash and is unconscious.

Circumcision is rarely a medical necessity, and never is necessary on a small child.

Actually, circumcision was used as a less-likely-to-result-in-death alternative to the common practice of castration for slaves in the ancient world. The theory is that Jews, who have a long history of being enslaved adopted the procedure as a way to "own it".

In ancient Egypt captured warriors were often mutilated before being condemned to the slavery. Amputation of digits and castration was common, but the morbidity was high and their resultant value as slaves was reduced. However, circumcision was just as degrading and evolved as a sufficiently humiliating compromise. Eventually, all male descendents of these slaves were circumcised. The Phoenicians, and later the Jews who were largely enslaved, adopted and ritualized circumcision. In time, circumcision was incorporated into Judaic religious practice and viewed as an outward sign of a covenant between God and man (Genesis XVI)

Find the circumcision episode of Penn & Teller's Bullshit!. They do a marvelous explanation of why circumcision is completely unnecessary. Including talking to Jewish scholars who confirm that it's not a requirement.

If you are Jewish you can decide to have it done when you turn 18 if you want, but parents should not be able to inflict grievous bodily harm on their children for religious reasons whether their children are boys or girls.

I think it's even worse if it's done for ritual reasons like religion or tradition. At least others are mislead into thinking it's somehow "healthier" even if that's all a big fat lie.

Religion is something you choose yourself, frankly I wish no one would choose organized cults. Because no one in religious groups universally agree on anything, even though they all supposedly follow the same script. It's nonsense.

So permanently altering someone's body to adhere to your choice of religious beliefs, a baby no less, is absolutely disgusting. Particularly since they could grow up and... not want to be Jewish.

It's taking indoctrination to a whole other level.

edit; And as I understand, circumcision has fallen out of favor with quite a few Jewish people.

Generally, no. Being Jewish isn't a validation of genital cutting just as it wouldn't be OK in African tribal villages or Muslim communities. Most anti-cutting arguments do not have to do with religion, but with health, medical ethics, and the child's human rights.

I come from a Jewish family. (That's why I was circumcised) My family, like a majority of Jewish families, does not follow all the rules in the Torah. Chances are your family doesn't either. That being said, I think we should put aside traditions, religious or secular, if they are harmful.
