A little evening rant from me. Let's discuss feelings, men's rights, and anything on your mind.

I'm from France. For some Americans, it's a communist dystopia; for some others it's a socialist utopia, whatever, I'm not here to talk politics. But let's say that it's a country that strongly encourages minorities, migrants, women, gays to talk openly and say what they have on their heart.

To the point where I'm... A bit frustrated? I feel like I fit into none of these categories. I'm a straight white male. I don't have problems. I only have guilt.

Recently, the 146th (or something) woman was killed by her husband in France. It's terrible, tragic, and absolutely disgusting - not to forget surprising for a first world country. Although I thoroughly oppose acts of violence against women, I'm frustrated by the reactions from the media. The verdict is unanimous: men are guilty.

Men rape.

Men kill women.

Men abuse children.

Men are violent.

Men earn more than women.

Men are trash.

This is what I feel like hearing everyday. When my dad turns on the TV, this is all I hear - or rather, this is the implicit conclusion of all the things my dad watches and enjoys. It makes me despise the media. It makes me feel like shit, like some kind of evil monster placed on this Earth to make women suffer.

Besides, a sad consequence of this is the links that people draw between men and other toxic behaviors. I feel like there's such a strong circlejerk against men, that it now encompasses every evil there is in this world. Soon, you will hear the following:

Men are homophobic.

Men hate the poor.

Men are thieves.

Men cause wars.

Men hate Muslims.

This is what I feel. I feel like people are quickly creating some sort of huge entity that contains all the main sources of evil; and are calling it "men" (or variants, such as "white men", "straight men", "cis men"...). And this big entity, this huge glob of evil and hatred, is now mistaken with men - normal men, peaceful men, honest men.

In my region, there is a tradition for Carnival: each village builds a giant puppet out of papier mâché. It becomes the monster that causes every disease in the village. One by one, the children accuse him: "he killed my goldfish!", "he made me lose my Mario save!", "he made me have a bad grade!". Then, it is ceremoniously burned while everyone rejoices. Nowadays, I feel like this monster.

I can already hear the feminists:

"But all rapists are men!"

"But all wife killers are men!"

"But all terrorists are men!"

We all know that these are not true, so I will not dwell on that.

One last point that I want to raise is the fact that this is not limited to French media. This phenomenon of guilt-tripping men is absolutely mainstream. Not only it is not limited to the information media - one girl out of two on Tinder calls herself a feminist -, it is not limited to France either. Recently I was in Switzerland and there was a huge strike against men earning more than women. And if you want a foretaste of the international hatred for men, fellow redditors, I invite you to go on /r/all and to scroll down for a few minutes.

In conclusion, my point is simple. Nowadays, being a man is being guilty by default. Being a woman is being a victim. My word is worth less than the one of my sister, because I have a Y chromosome and chose not to change sex, but that's a debate for another sub.

In my country, the Constitution says that men and women are born equal and free. I feel like this is not true anymore. I feel like today's men are paying the price of the abuse done by their fathers, and that their position as a culprit is exaggerated to the point that men are guilty by default.

Sorry, I just wanted to rant a little bit and you guys seem cool.
