Guys don’t thumbs this post down because I’m asking a genuine question and I want to have the conversation since this is something I’ve been thinking about for a while. I had the idea that, maybe arresting women for coming forward and admitting to lying could maybe cause some false accusers to stay silent and let the man rot in prison or continue to let that negative stain stay on his reputation. I’m open to hearing what others have to say but my thinking on it is, women should only be arrested if they’re caught to have been lying but if they come forward on their own, maybe we should let them go freely? It honestly hurts seeing so many men being released from prison 10-30 years later because DNA evidence was finally advanced enough to exonerate them. Those are years that man will never get back. And I always asked myself why the women waited so long to clear that man’s name but I think the fear of going to jail for telling a lie could be why they didn’t tell the truth sooner. In cases like Izu Mmadubueze’s (the young man who took his own life after being accused of rape on social media because he knew what it would do to his reputation only for the woman to come forward after his death to say “Well I never said I was ‘physically’ assaulted by him.”), I completely understand people wanting her locked up and I still believe she should be arrested. Please look into Izu’s case because he definitely did not get justice. But im the cases where the people lying are believed, do you think women who come forward and admit to lying should be set free for the sake of the men being accused? I remember a hidden camera recording showing a woman saying she’d come forward to tell the truth about falsely accusing a man but she didn’t want to go to jail and I also believe she got some sort of settlement money and didn’t want to have to pay that back. What are you guy’s thoughts?
