The reason bags or items are usually no bigger than 20 kg is because that is the weight limit that women are expected to be able to lift safely, according to labour research carried out in the 1970's. So women should have zero trouble lifting 5-10 kg weights.

Part of the reason why 20kg is now the general standard limit for packaging is because feminists claimed they were discriminated against in many labour positions because the bag limits which were formerly 50kg were considered too heavy for most women, and some men.

Edit : My eldest sister ( in our younger years) would daily sling 50kg bags of Goolwa Cockles (a shell fish) onto a truck without hesitation or problem! I couldn't keep up with her!

It doesn't always happen. There's women who can do heavy lifting too, and some choose to do just that.

But should they choose not to, women have a much easier time avoiding that sort of work in favor of getting a man to do it instead.

Although it may seem really petty, I think stuff like this really needs to be highlighted. The same women who refuse to do stuff like this are the same ones who would be in uproar screaming about equality if they found out their male counterparts had a premium on their wages for doing these extra duties they claim not to be able to. I think the expectation of chivalry really needs to die a swift death.

At my old retail job this happened. The majority of employees were women. I worked in the stockrooms, half of my fellow stockroom coworkers were also women. I did not mind working the stockrooms despite most of the women working other positions, because I did not want a lot of contact with customers.

What did disturb me was how when stock work needed to be done that involved heavy lifting or hard physical work, it fell to the men to do it, while we were also responsible for the same stockroom work the women did.

Fuck sake, this is so dumb. The average man is stronger than like 99% of women. When you're working for a company, you're all on the same team, and therefore you divide the group tasks to whoever is most suited for it. Are you a human calculator, and have a degree in accounting? Ok, you can do our books. Are you born leader, with a degree in organisational management? You can be our manager. Are you a fresh young 18 year old that is stronger than me? Cool, could you help me lift this for me?

This is just how companies are organised to be the most effective. Lifting "heavy" (less than 20kg isn't that heavy) doesn't wreck your body if you're doing it right.

It's a man's job because our biology makes us more suited for it. I hate the bitching almost as much as the "secular creationism" everyone seems to have when it comes to human biology and evolution
