Look ill give you my story, I am a feminist. I am involved in work trying to stop sexual violence because I am terrified of the amount of friends of mine who have been raped, groped, followed etc.

On the other hand I am a man, and I am a suicide attempt survivor. So I also do a lot of work in that sphere, trying to help out mens group, suicide in teenagers etc. Because I wish I had that help growing up. But thats also part of what makes me a feminist, telling boys that bottling up all the shit will only hurt them.

Im not saying you gotta be a feminist and Im not saying its a group without dumb fucks. I hate fringe feminists as much as anyone but I wont let some pink haired fatlass stop all the real work that can be done to stop my mother, sisters and friends feel less threated just by existing and all the worl that can be done so my brothers, friends and myself do not have to suffer in silence to the point of suicide. Thats just my 2c

If you see something like Duluth, and you see women being protected from being hit and what you want is for women to no longer be protected instead of men being protected too then you are missing the point.

Feminists tend to have massive, massive blind spots in relation to men issues, thats why you gotta engage and participate and make yourself heard. Instead of hating them, and alienating yourself into a corner of unprotected status do as much noise as them. Most arent evil, they simply do not know about stuff like this, in the same qay many men do not know about the struggles of being a woman.

No, I'm saying that feminism is actively and willfully harmful and by working to undo feminism I am working to improve the life of everyone living under feminist laws and regulations.

The Duluth model's mechanics is "always arrest the man, even if the woman is clearly the aggressor. The people who actually came up with it admitted that their study results were just confirmation bias. At no point was the model useful in reducing instances of DV. It actually was successful in increasing the likelihood that women would offend since it removed the already lesser consequences that they might face.

Feminists don't have blind spots for men's issues, they see them, go into denial, and come up with some DARVOesk reason for why the issue actually hurts women to avoid admitting that they were wrong. The closest I've seen to what feminists are advertised as are people like Christina Hoff Sommers, who are essentially excommunicated from the movement.

It's because of how toxic feminism is and has always been that I'm an anti-feminist. I'm only a men's rights advocate because I am an anti-feminist. I'm going to continue to oppose feminism until either the movement is no more or I'm proven wrong about it(unlikely considering the treatment Sommers gets).

Have to be honest I come from a country that is not america and has very different model of dealing with domestic violence. I had only done a superficial reading and you are right, it seems like a pretty shitty way to address anything. One of those pseudo scientific methods america let go through bureaucracy hell in the 80s and added everywhere like DARE and the Abstinence sex education.

Sadly I think this is not a feminist problem but a problem endemic to the american government where localised successes get promoted federally without rigurious testing and control groups. A system that is based on the theory that men exert violence to control their partner is pretty sexist and if I am not wrong it should go against the equality and discrimination laws of most states. Wonder how no one has been able to fight back against it, because if you made laws that addressed mexicans it would get thrown right out of the window.

Christina makes some good points, well she regurgitates good points from some better authors, but she also says quite a lot of dumb shit. She exagerates so much to be right that most of the time she is either fighting a strawman or the dumbest person the opposition has to offer. If you wanna see how good a debater is, check those that go for the strongest point the other person made and not the weakest.

Another country with an equally infuriating system is the UK were most battered refuges only accept women so if you are a woman with a child he cant go in and gets sent for adoption which is absolutly barbaric. Again some dumb system inherited cause some women made a refuge that worked and the gov expanded it everywhere. Luckily the situation in the UK is improving and we now have some male only places, etc but in the 90s the situation was harrowing.

You are fighting for gender equality

I can promise you, this is by and large the most accepted view of feminism. It is true that it has, as a movement, made way more efforts in helping women. In part because it considered they were in a worse starting point and secondly because a majority of the movement is women.

However there is space for men, and we belong and our cases should be heard. scholarships only for women can be a good thing and so can mental health hospitals only for men. If there is a good reason and it will help then why not.

I prefer a world where everyone has privileges and is equal instead of one where we fight over taking things away from others and we all end up worse off. Build each other instead of take each other down. For example I want men jail sentences to equal women (they are much lower on average), it pains me seeing hundreds of men behind bars and countless fatherless kids. The equality view could easily be make women sentencing harsher but that would only make us all worse I think.

That is not the feminist movement that is around. My university still have a feminist group officially sponsored by the uni, and the meeting are closed for men... They expecially get money for dump idea to get more women into the field(they are only 30%), when there is the psychologist faculty that have more then 90% of women, and nobody gives a shit. This is the feminist. Personally there is not a problem with this difference. People are free to make their choiche on study, but why the hell you should fight to give scholarship only for women? Those are the things that make people angry, and these feminist groups are the reason why there is such competition. There are good groups? For sure, but they are not calling themself feminist to start... it is not a men against women, if you call yourself feminist is like you already took sides.

Except most of the people that advocate for feminism are also openly misandrist and it's accepted by society. And often work against the opposing sex, posting what is basically mediatic terrorism (spread of fear against men because they are rapist, creepy etc), downplaying men's issues, attempting to prevent men from getting equal rights in custody, and so on.

Of course the pure principle of the movement is nothing about that. It's the noble idea of helping women with their problems in society, but like many political movements, the actions of the followers do not align with the pure original intentions.

I hope you'll understand why many here feel endangered and intimidated, as this wave of new feminism in the first world countries try to leverage their popularity with hate and emotions, while the governments and companies try to get on the good side of this popular movement for votes and other personal gains.

Most is a keyword and where you are wrong. A small, dumb and sadly loud minority does all that. Most feminists dont know they are feminists they are just good humans who want others to have a good life.

Look I work on this so I see men with your point of view because of work. But I will say the same thing I tell everyone. Most women are unaware of men issues, they do not try to prevent men from getting equal custody, they do not want to downplay men issues and they do not want to weaponise manliness. They simply do not know about any of those things.

Men like you and me we feel attacked at the moment. But the truth is that its not entirely the fault of feminists. The idea of "women" has radically changed since 1960 to now. Things that used to be manly are not genderless and things that used to be barred to women are not equally accesible to both genders. However the idea of a man has not had this evolution. We are expected to fullfill the role of 1960, cool, calm, collected supplier who goes guns blazing into danger and also brings food for his family and at the same time somehow integrate with modern, independent women who by design no longer need a man to supply for them. This is entirely confusing because we need to both things at once and they are not compatible. We are being attacked and its a shame because the deconstruction of what constitutes a man could be a fucking postive experince. We could now decide we do not want to work more overtime than women and we want to be there for our sons more (kids without dads have a ton of issues), we could decide shit like cooking, dancing and having deep conversations arent feminime things. No one becomes friends faster than 2 guys, you can see a guy with your same te shirt point at him smile and be friends that night. But most men still have trouble telling their best friend something important like a sickness, or a family problem.

We need the idea of men to evolve, so it is no longer expected of us to be two things at once but also addresses the many issues facing men right now like suicide, divorce, unfair judges, expected violence etc.

I've read through your few comments on this thread. You make some really well thought out points. I personally try not to align myself with any mass group of people because you always have extremists on both sides that speak louder than most and just promote hating the other side. I instead pick my own values from these groups one by one to live by. My main philosophy is just be kind to others. I see in this subreddit and the feminism subreddit a lot of hating of the other side and it's mostly stemming from examples of extremists from the other camp. I don't think either of these subreddits have a very accurate portrayal of what most of the others follows are actually like. If I reflect on my own personal perspective, I am friends with lots of people who are feminists, none of them promote the hating of men or want to disadvantage men at all. They just speak up about issues that effect them, like not wanting to be sexually abused.

I don't know why I am even trying to make a point here... The internet is a horrible place to post your thoughts.

All I wanted to say was good post, keep up the good work, and I wish you luck with all your endeavours.

The average man is scared of his own shadow in the workplace and sexual violence against women doesn't even need evidence anymore. They don't even cover most guys committing suicide because a bullied male is "weak minded selfish pussy" while a bullied female is a "tragic victim".

Because its definitely not Business. No company wants that reputation in today's climate. It loses $$$, which is all they care about. Every Male College Professor is terrified of getting "Title Nined" by one of their students for giving them a bad grade, or saying the wrong thing in a lecture. You really think they are going around sexually assaulting their colleagues on a regular basis??? There were a couple a guys who got FIRED for making a private off-color joke at a conference because it was within EARSHOT of a feminist for god's sake.

What jobs? Computer science is one. Many good devs end up being data scientists for example because dev culture is pretty toxic. I say that as a programmer, the amount of incels, socially awk hacker types etc is still huge. You'd think that in "todays climate" it wouldnt happen but I have heard 6 comments about coworkers tits this week, and we have 3 women in a team of 40. One of our heads of UX asked a coworker if she "played for the other team" cause she didnt wanna hit on her if she was gay during the christmas party (everyone knows she has a bf but she has short hair so he assumed lesbian). Honestly she would never report that but as a guy I have never ha a female boss hit on me, at a drinking event, and assumed my sexuality, it has never happened.

Some companies care about PR and if something goes viral they will fire someone to look like they are doing something but the reality is that day to day a lot of stuff gets swept under the rug. HR departments are shit and work for the company, if the worker is good even if he is harashing people he will stay unless the case goes public and he gets fired. This happens everywhere, male and women alike get away with indecent behaviour unless it hits the companies bottom line.

The best example someone has come up with is the duluth model, but that is not really a feminist problem but a problem of the US gov that makes federal programs out of localised successes. DARE is just as bad and its not feminist based, abstinence sexual education is just as bad and not feminist based. Most exit reports in companies for certain roles and in Unis for certain degrees cite environment as the main reason. This is all well documented. I work as a computer scientist, the number of coworkers and uni guys who were incels is outstanding. The number of mysoginistic, bold, sexist, and kinda disgusting shit women at uni and work listen to is pretty high. Which is why many go to Bio-CS, or data science etc.

What % of feminists do you imagine are TERFs? Just stop and pick a number.

Are TERFs and other radical feminists actually kewl? I've only seen them despised, dismissed, hated by other feminists in the last 20 years. The days of reverence for the most radical are long over.

I'll guess one or two percent at the very most are TERFs. It is common to see feminists denying that TERFs are even feminist, which is silly but that is how much they despise them.

How many substantial TERF websites are there, out of all the feminist sites? I can only think of Feministing, which has shut down. It peaked at 1.2M visitors a month, earlier in its 15 year life.

Reddit's TERF sub has 0.4% of the users that other feminist subs have, it is a mere 50k.
There are a few other rad fem subs but they are far smaller, from a few hundred up to 4000 users.

Compare that to the mainstream feminist sites, where TERFism and other radical feminist positions are not welcome:

You don’t realize that men who are raped by women are not treated as such because of the laws only men can rape so only men raped by men will be in your statistics. This is not an accurate picture. The Dunedin study suggests that women were more likely to be the perpetrators of a sexual assault than men.

Did you do time for your false rape accusation? Did you go to court even? Did you spend two years on remand in custody for false rape charges? Did you find prison conditions so inhumane that you wanted to just kill your self? Did you find the only thing keeping you alive was to get back at your accuser and the people responsible for trying to destroy your life? Have you been raped yourself to be able to make that comparison?

You have absolutely no idea about what I know. But I guess you didn’t like how I called it and picked it in one.

That is very country specific. My country does consider men rape by women, but I do know america needs penetration and unless the women pegs the man its rarely considered. Regardless most male rape happens in jail, its sadly common everywhere (the stats in south america are insane, if you speak spanish there are quite a few documentaries about jails down there and you will need eye bleach after.)

I will happily read that if you have it at hand. But in my experience, that is nowhere near true, anecdotal I know but the amount of shit the women in my life suffer compared to me is magnitudes larger.

Did you do time for your false rape accusation? I did not. I was in an education centre therefore the accusation was handled internally, I was offered to sign I had done it (I could not know the charges or the accusser) and I would be expelled, bared from receiving higher education in my country and essentially homeless. The alternative was not signing and all of that plus up to 15 years behind bars because she would press charges. I pushed really hard against it all and it came out she made it up, I received a scant apology and nothing else. It was horrible and still affects me to today, however nothing about that experience made me want to kill myself. And while there are obviously some insane cases of fake accusations, inproper jail sentences etcs he truth is that in the male suicide sphere, things like abusive parents, drug problems, and divorce are waaaaaaay higher than fake accusations. I am just trying to deal with issues in order of importance to try and get as many people help as soon as possible.

And you still tried and diagnose a massively hard to diagnose mental illness over two paragraphs and when called out you linked an online test... Like come on, how is that gonna be taken seriously. No psychiatrist would make that diagnosis without several hours of interviews and you did it online through two paragraphs.

Just to be sure, is this the only New Zeland tests from 1972? And if that is the case, do you feel confident extrapolating sociological data from 5 decades ago and another continent to be a universal truth?

Sorry man, english is my second language and in my first language BDP is essentially bipolar. Looked it up and I have 0 of the symptons, so id love to hear what made you think that.

With seven billion people on the planet sadly there are endless accounts of horrible, horrible things to almost any human for almost any cause. If you look out men being fake accused you will find that, if you look up child torture you will find that, sadly there is a lot of us and therefore a lot of bad stuff. Its confirmation bias, but the actual numbers, are not as worrying as other plagues men suffer (even if the end result is absolutely disgusting and horrible).

It has to do with many things. One sadly is toxic masculinity. Prision is by design made to make the people inside feel powerless. Now we have all been raised to be powerful, sucessful, important. This mental dissociation causes men to try and assert power and one way is emasculating other men, which rape is a tool of. Violence is another etc. Testosterone is a hell of a drug, but it has side effects like competitiveness and if youre behind bars you have very little to compete for other than being manly.

Yeah ok it was the one I thought it was. Now I repeat my point of those facts work everywhere or only in New Zealand? Considering American cities reduced their violence considerably after reducing lead in its tap water, or after legalizing abortion, how easy it is to ignore environmental factors and reduce chance of gender violence to some subjects in the other side of the planet? Not going against the study, it seems fairly well run and they released more than 1200 research paper which is impressive. But bold claims about anthropological data tend to be wrong (In scientific retrospect).

There are internet tests for "bi polar markers", which is as good as a horoscope but some people make wild mental health assumptions online.

Both are well researched topics. Toxic masculinity is a very small subsection of behaviours, more common in men or masculine roles in society, that end up with negative effects for the agent or its recipients. Bottling up your emotions to the point of self harm, is toxic masculinity. It is the extension of the masculine role of "man up" and "deal with it", two very good things to learn, to sometimes suck it up and make things work. But taken to the extreme end up being toxic. There is toxic femininity, things like empathy can be exploited to manipulative levels.

And confirmation bias, is simply having a hypothesis and finding any info pointing to that and having an "AHA" feeling about it. There are many known biases both in science and in day to day life and we have to be weary of them.
