This is the sort of thing that shakes your faith in democracy.

A federal court rules, in accordance with the constitution, that causing physical harm to infants is prohibited.
Religious lobbies kick up a big fuss about it.
Politicians quickly concoct a legal construct to circumvent that ruling in the interest of religious freedom.

Now the only hope remaining is the German supreme court, but the politicians have already taken every measure they could think of to prepare for that scenario.

I know this won't be taken well (it never has been), but you guys really make those of us who are circumcised feel like utter shit. I can only imagine how others who find circumcision to be a reasonable action (beyond the fear mongering of "genital mutilation") feel about such responses. I think it should be far more concerning that there's laws that strictly forbid such an act at all.
