Do they know that girls graduate all levels of education at a higher rate than boys?

[–]Lumberingfeather 35 points36 points37 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes but they don't care.

[–]Macismyname 14 points15 points16 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Now in fairness. That's in western more egalitarian societies. There is still a fight to be had securing women's right to an education in other parts of the world. Particularly in the middle east. At an international subject, it's fair to bring up.

I do fucking hate how feminists pretend women aren't more successful in school in America, and just ignore the fact that boys are the ones who need to 'bridge the education gap'. But internationally it makes sense.

I think making it the top priority is pretty dumb though. There are worse problems in the world to focus on at a G7 summit. Child soldiers and child labor off the top of my head. The fact that the western world tolerates the crime that is third world industry blows my fucking mind.

Not so:

"Muslim Women at forefront of Science: 70% of Iranian Women Graduates come out with Science Degrees"

https://www.juancole.com/2018/03/forefront-science-graduates.html

[–]Macismyname 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

That's one example though man. I spent time in the middle east and one of our hardest pushes was things like protecting schools from the Taliban when they tried to scare off the girls. Same thing for polling stations. You can't deny that internationally there are places where women still need to fight for education. It's just mostly domestically where the hypocrisy exists and men struggle more.

[–]Elvick 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The problem there is responsibility that girls/women do not have. Boys/men are expected to go to school, get a job, and care for the women in their families. Women have no such responsibility so their education is unimportant.

Without changing the social expectation and responsibilities people expect... what good is it really going to do anybody?

It's going to make more problems. They need to start elsewhere first.

edit; also, there are many boys who are not getting educations around the world too. But nobody cares. So...

[–]MRA-automatron-2kb 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm asking because you were there, did the taliban kidnap boys to serve in their army?

[–]Abadoobie 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

In developed nations they also outperform boys in everything but math and physics, sometimes significantly (reading), starting from elementary school through to post-secondary(PISA stats). Women also have higher post secondary enrollment rates and earn more degrees except for doctorates. Boys are being left behind and ignored while still more resources are spent on advancing women and girls.

When is it enough? What outcome is being targetted? 50% of all public resources devoted to women and girls? 60? 75? Why do women need so much assistance? Systemic sexism is not an adequate explanation to justify this.

[–]BetterOut 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They are talking about developing nations, and addressing poverty, not western nations.

Andrew Scheer next election.

[–]sliferodoom 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

who is he

[–]XUE_LI_HUANG 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

The current leader of Canada's Conservative Party.

[–]sliferodoom 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Where is he on a political spectrum from Trudeau to Trump?

[–]tibbymat 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It’s impossible to compare anyone to trump. Scheer is a young well spoken conservative. He has his issues but they aren’t a problem for me when it comes to what I value politically. He is getting my vote as well this coming election.

[–]XUE_LI_HUANG 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I haven't heard anyone compare the Conservatives in Canada to resemble the Republicans in the US. Conservative politics in Canada are more "liberal" than the ones in the US, but obviously not as left as the our actual Liberal Party.

[–]VelocityMax 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Liberal party.

[–]Kram_BehindtheScenes 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I agree with being more generous and liberal then being conservative with our money. But Trudeau and the liberal movement in Canada has painted men as the villain.

We get very little of the money and are asked to give more. Just look at how many times Men versus Women was mentioned in the last budget. Equality isn't focusing on womens issue, its focusing and empowering both sides. Were at a point that men and women both face issue worth tackling. Women aren't oppressed anymore. They may suffer in some parts more then men, but men suffer in other parts to match that.

Personally, Andrew Sheer could say everyone has to pay 10% more on taxes and I'd vote for him. My vote with be either Andrew Sheer or a spoiled ballet.

[–]perplexedm 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Rightly said. He does few things right and undoes all that with this crappy feminut positions. Shame.

[–]HeForeverBleeds 53 points54 points55 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Usually in those places where girls go to school less often or not at all, it's because the boys are ultimately the ones stuck with the entire burden of getting a job providing for their family. Which they have to attempt to do, even though usually they can still only get low-paying and dangerous jobs in those places

Only focusing on educating girls and ignoring corresponding the social disadvantages boys have is not equality. Both the one-sided education and the one-sided responsibilities ought to be addressed

[–]mrmensplights2 points 8 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Of course, but understanding the actual situation on the ground and working hard to improve things is an incredible amount of work. Maybe even a life’s work to improve things a little in one place. You have to get your hands dirty.

Nah, easier just to throw random money at our pet problems and pat ourselves on the back until the next election. Never mind dumping a garbage truck of money in some random place is basically as disruptive as dropping a bomb.

[–]CounterfeitMemes 27 points28 points29 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

How is girls' education measured, though?

In Canada, there are only three universities that have more men than women as students, and one of those is the Royal Military College in Kingston. There are ~30 institutions with more females than males, and yet Trudeau thinks women are oppressed in Canada. So how would getting more women in education in other nations even fix gender inequality in other nations if, according to him and his policies, it doesn't fix gender inequality here?

[–]thrway_1000 14 points15 points16 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The push feminism and have nothing to do with equality.

a new commitment to girls’ education when they meet in Charlevoix, Que., on Friday and Saturday. Women’s rights advocates are urging G7 countries to invest US$1.3-billion to close the education gap between boys and girls around the world.

Since more girls graduate high school, more girls go to college, more women warm doctoral degrees...I can only assume "close the education Gap between boys and girls" means they're spending a billion dollars improving boys education.

[–]BetterOut 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"around the world" - means they are looking at countries where access to education for girls is not what it is for boys

I also hope it means they will be building more schools in remote areas so that all children in that area can attend school.

The devil's in the detail and that isn't available yet.

[–]Rethgil 10 points11 points12 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Please note: the possible next Prime Minister of Britain has said a very similar thing-so to all tone policers with feminist agendas, STOP trying to claim there is no global level issue against equal rights for men-it is beyond doubt, it is established fact.

Female rights are HUGELY privileged on a GLOBAL level now.

[–]fisherman11111 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I for one applaud Mr. Drama teacher's efforts. I can't wait to see how all those warlords in Africa... sorry, I mean little girls... spend all that extra money. Maybe they can buy something newer than AKs.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, enjoy your term while it lasts, PM.

For you're going to be out on your virtue signalling ass come next election.

[–]Triskerai 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

There are countries in the world where women have limited access to education, by law or by practice. The feminists have decided to ally themselves to several of these often Muslim countries.

Because logic.

"Over half of STEM jobs in several middle eastern countries are held by female professionals."

[–]BetterOut 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

The Middle East is just one part of the world. There are many other countries that have high levels of poverty and low levels of access to education.

[–]Elvick 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And a lot of boys are also not being educated in such places. Which they aren't talking about at all. And of the two genders, which one in these places is going to be expected to support the family they eventually build? Assuming they live long enough to have one.

[–]MRA-automatron-2kb 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Everytime I point something out you invalidate it by finding some injustice in another part of the world or some other problem.

I can't list all the possible problems women face in one comment and this isn't the feminist sub to do so.

Again you are feminist tone policing or trying to derail points made on this sub.

[–]BetterOut 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"Again you are feminist tone policing or trying to derail points made on this sub. "

I don't expect you to list all possible problems women face in one comment. This is a conversation. More than one person gets to add their thoughts, and often this gives a fuller picture of the issue. It's not an attempt to derail.

You assume I'm pushing a feminist agenda, when I'm actually in favour of all children having access to education.

[–]BruceCampbell123 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

leaders will specifically discuss a new commitment to girls’ education

So women will be even more favored in academia?

[–]Hellhound265 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thats really interesting since this should mean investing a significant amount of money into boys education. At least here in Germany were boys are the real losers of our female led education system.

[–]svenskbitch 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A quick look at UNESCO stats shows that women surpassed men in educational achievement already in the early 90's for developed countries, mid 90's for world average, and late 90's for developing and emerging economies. Only in a few, often poor and war-ravaged countries in Subsaharan Africa as well as a few states in India do you still have slightly more boys finishing secondary education than girls.

Even the MINT gender gap is typically less pronounced, and at times reversed, in less developed countries.

This has some bizarre consequences. UNESCO has an entire division devoted to girls' education, and they now have to work on a few locations and far-reaching issues such as access to sanitation and entrepreneurship opportunities.

To be fair, some of the funds available for gender equality in education do, albeit reluctantly, end up benefiting boys. And of course, overall, access to education overall has been, along with health, one of the greatest human development successes over the past decades.

This guy has always been a bitch.

[–]HotDealsInTexas 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

On one hand, there is an education gap in many developing countries (although, as HeForeverBleeds has pointed out, it's generally associated with massive expectations of male providership as well).

On the other hand, do something about the education gap in your own fucking country, you hypocritical piece of shit.

[–]Karma9999 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Education gap? You mean they are going to try to get as many men to go to uni as women?

[–]BetterOut 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This appears to be talking about foreign aid, rather than domestic education.

There are still huge disparities in many developing nations when it comes to access to education for girls vs boys.

This isn't about "fuck males".

[–]GrayVegan 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I don’t always agree with him, but this is even more of a reason for Trump to pull away from the G7 and shit on Canada.

[–]TheImpossible1 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Does Trudeau even need to be shit on at this point? Feminists hate him and he still debases himself for them.

[–]MRA-automatron-2kb 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I didn't hear that the feminists hate him.

Was it on the news?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[–]BetterOut 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

How so?

[–]ThePigmanAgain 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Do i have to read it to know they won't be doing shit about the education gap in the Western countries because that gap is against the boys?

I saw a news program that said African girls stop going to school because of their periods (menses).

Give them tampons and pads and they will go to school.

It's not a big patriarchy plot like Trudeau thinks.

[–]BetterOut 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

That is one reason. Of many.

Access to education can be limited for many reasons, often linked to poverty.

There is not one, easy fix.

[–]MRA-automatron-2kb 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Oh really?

What? you can't figure out that the lack of tampons for girls is related to poverty?

Or that because I didn't give all the possible reasons

it invalidates the tampon solution?

Take your patronizing tone policing back to your feminist sub.

[–]Elvick 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You flipped out for no reason.

[–]MRA-automatron-2kb 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You are just jealous because you never thought or heard of the solution to give girls tampons so they go to school without bleeding on their school bench.

[–]BetterOut 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I don't come from the feminist sub, and your decision to read my comment as patronising is your own.
If you read my comment again you will see I didn't invalidate your "tampon solution". I acknowledged it was part of the picture.

[–]MRA-automatron-2kb 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You are the type of bureaucratic person who procrastinates to find solutions to all the possible problems instead of getting started with one easy solution.

[–]BetterOut 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Discussing all the issues doesn't mean you don't action them. You can walk and chew gum at the same time.

You really are determined to read my comment as not aligned in any way with your own, as well as labeling me (inaccurately) in your past two responses.

Reddit is supposed to facilitate a discussion of ideas. You appear to just want to argue with those who don't echo your own sentiments 100 percent.
