Posted this on another sub recently and felt it was worth sharing here. Found this post on Twitter/X. I've always hated the "women and children" narrative, and this post is right on the money. The narrative is equally misandrist and misogynist, with the misandrist part being obvious but it's also misogynistic in the sense it infantalizes women and absolves them of agency. I see some people defend the narrative saying it's mostly women and children who are vulnerable in occurances like wars, bombings, terrorist attacks, natural disasters, etc. well guess what, most men are just as vulnerable. The average man isn't some superhero who doesn't experience any sort of harm. It may not be the intent to imply an adult male's life has no worth or value, but that's very much how it comes off whenever this phrase is used.

It's even worse how in recent times it's "women and girls," and that's a whole other level of screwed up how even the lives of boys are seen as expendable and not worth protecting or caring about. People often like to claim misandry isn't real or "systemic" (the favorite S-word of misandrists everywhere), but the usage of this phrase is very much a classical example of misandry as well as misandry in fact having systemic power behind it. No matter what misandrists themselves say.
