Because they wore out the term "sexism" and need to up the rhetoric in order to control narrative. "Misogynist" is perfect as a replacement as its not a two way street so it can't easily bite them the way throwing out an accusation of being 'sexist' can.

"Chauvanist" is too out dated to be useful online as its not a politcally loaded term that can be used to silence debate.

Look for "Kyriarchy"-derived terms to be up next as the new wailing siren to replace 'misogyny' as its based on theories of dominance and oppression so as to easily skirt gender issues all together that were muddied in the recent popular trans wave.

Because many of them would consider chauvinism and sexism to be the natural consequences of systemic misogyny.

I’m summarising, but these are the feminists who consider all men to exist on the same cline from the "pathological irrational and uncontrollable hatred of females” that "is normally reserved for serial killers and rapists” to "finding women inferior to men” to "blatant discrimination of women in the workplace or education system”

To an alarming degree, the view of men that a lot of feminists have is informed by the profiles of abusive men who have been convicted for domestic violence assaults and of the stories of the women who shared their lives with them.

An abused woman will often say something like "Oh, but he was so sweet and gentle and funny when I first met him” which to many feminists can be interpreted to mean - you can’t trust any men, not even the ‘nice guys’, because you can never tell when he’s going to turn feral and savage on you.

Hence sexism and chauvinism are just seen as the more evident ‘musk’ of the real misogyny that supposedly lurks under every man’s pores. It’s an ‘all men are rapists’ claim, even when they haven’t committed an offence (it’s seen as just a matter of time and one bad day).

Of course, one of the many, many flaws in this is that you are basing a model of reality on quite extreme outliers and calling it normal.

Another obvious flaw is taking an abused woman’s words as literal e.g. when she says "Oh, but he was so sweet and gentle and funny when I first met him”, in your mind’s eye, you might well be imagining an image of a genial, smiling JC Penny model like this rather than the ex con man-mountain paranoid schizophrenic heroin addict or alcoholic that he might actually be, such as Shane Jenkin.

Jenkin was a violent offender, a well-known psycho who regularly got into fights in bars, night clubs and so on, who murdered his own dog and was obsessed with violent horror films. He eventually gouged out the eyes of Tina Nash, the girl with him in that photo, who now looks like this.

To suggest in any way that Jenkin is representative of the majority of men is preposterous, yet that is basically what the misogyny-chauvinism-sexism triad is arguing.

Oh, incidentally, this is the coda to the Nash story.

A rather obvious conclusion to draw from that is that there is something in Nash’s character that draws her to aggressive and physically violent men.

The rather less obvious conclusion is that what I’ve just said is an instance of ‘victim blaming’ and that rather than have a therapist talk to Nash about what draws her to such men, instead blame the whole of the male part of the population for having been brought up on a diet of systemic misogyny in which every man is just one day a way from becoming a Shane Jenkin or a Roland Alli.

If you want to see what sexism against men looks like read Wikipedia's Sexism article. :) It's full of crazy feminist stereotypes (and lies and half-truths) about men and women.

Or better still, don't read it because anger isn't a healthy emotion.

I have noticed that what once would have been deemed "sexism" is now more likely to be called "misogyny". (To be fair, some MRAs and the like do the same with "misandry" too often for my liking). Is such and such a thing sexist? It may well be so, yes. Is it misogynistic? - usually not.

The keep amping up the term, as the decades go by, and now they've moved onto misogyny. They want that term to be so broadened that even basic criticism becomes equated to "hatred of women". What they don't get is that by roping in creative alternative definitions to broaden the smear to as wide a pool of behaviours as possible, they are watering down the power of the term at the same time.

If simply criticizing feminism or pointing out flaws is misogyny, now, then misogyny doesn't really mean anything. It's become so malleable and misused that it's empty.

Both men and women find certain aspects or acts or interests of the other sex to be annoying, stupid, obnoxious, and generally incomprehensible. Most men are fine with this, but it seems women are incapable of hearing any kind of criticism of their sex, hence they view the "right" kind of treatment of women to be pandering to them, placing them above men in word and deed.

Two factors that may play into this:

Women will always be seen as essential to the human race for their reproductive abilities (unless artificial wombs happen). Not only that, but men will always seek sex from women (unless sex robots happen) and this gives them an automatic sense of superiority.
Men frequently do the jobs that either no one else can do or no one wants to do. Because of that, women take on the work that essentially anyone else can do (as well as things only they can do such as pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding). Because it's work that everyone else can do, it's not seen as difficult as other jobs, hence women typically get into the defensive mode of wanting to explain "how hard it really is." Take for example household chores. Most men take on the more physically wearying jobs like mowing the lawn, and the gross stuff like taking out the garbage or fixing the backed up toilet. Most women will do things like the dishes, laundry, etc. which are things anyone can do and in comparison to the kind of jobs men do, is the easier task. But then women feel like their work is not being valued, therefore they need to go on and on about how tiring and horrible cleaning the dishes is (even though with a dishwasher and a hot sink, it's pretty damn easy).

Woah, replace 'women' with any other group of people. I don't think it's okay to find some members of a group annoying and proclaiming all of them are annoying. Especially a group where membership isn't a choice.

Woah, again an overgeneralization, just because a few women you've met experienced intense period pain doesn't mean every woman is unproductive 5/30ths of the time.

This subreddit used to be a safe haven for men who needed help when society failed them in using stereotypes to assume certain things about them (e.g. they are never abused, never raped, etc.)

But now the subreddit seems to have fallen to the same problems it seeked to solve...

It is the blatant discrimination of a GENDER in the workplace or education. Men experience sexism too, particularly in heavily-female dominated professions like nursing and teaching.

I think the thing that you all miss is that 'feminists can't tell the difference'. Feminists need to have this pined out to them. When they use a term incorrectly, it needs to be pointed out.

For example: if a feminist calls you a misogynist, ask her to kindly point out the tortured women in a cage in the house somewhere. If she can not find this or your desire to keep a woman in such a manner, she will need to downgrade you to chauvinist.

If a woman calls you sexist, you ask her how your opinion had caused her to lose money or liberty and then let her know the correct term for your fleeing towards women.

If every time a woman uses the word misogynist or sexist to a man, just let her know that your feelings towards women aren't that drastic. Chauvinism is fine. There is nothing wrong with considering women inferior. Just don't rape murder or cause them to loose opportunity fiscally.
