Why do feminists use the term 'rape survivor'?

RAINN volunteer here. We find that people who call us overwhelmingly prefer to be called "survivor" than "victim." It gives them a sense of empowerment, like being raped or assaulted is something they can overcome, rather than something that will haunt them for the rest of their lives.

1) Being a plane crash survivor does not imply you were not in a plane crash

2) "Survivor" carries a positive connotation, it says you are strong and you got through it and you'll be OK afterwards. "Victim" implies helplessness.

Annnd... insert MRA joke here about a feminist not wanting to apply the label of "victim" to herself.

Feminists use the term "survivor" instead of "victim", because they want rape to be seen as a special sort of crime - much worse than any other. We don't refer to "robbery survivors" or "assault survivors", even though there's a chance of death in both those cases.

It's just another example of feminists misusing words, like "misogyny" and "patriarchy".

Its supposed to be more empowering than victim. A survivor has come out the other side, while a victim stays a victim.

Because feminists are fucking stupid. Rape isn't dangerous, you can't survive something that can't kill you in the first place. It's just some retarded buzzword they like to throw around to make it seem worse than it actually is.
