Why isn't masculism a thing?

Mens Rights Advocacy is the noun of the verb (advocacy-> to advocate). There's no ideological underpinning necessary to engage in an action. "Feminism" and "Masculism" are labels for ideologies, the former of which is based upon the presumption of class warfare between men and women with men winning (which is inherrently anti-male when you examine what needs to be true for it to accurately describe reality ).

I'll stick to describing myself by my actions, rather than ascribing to an ideology.

I think men’s rights is more descriptive, it accurately reflects they want equal rights for men. Masculism is more vague and sounds more like it’s about masculinity.

Because I don't know, it sounds like a word that push men over the rest. Men's right activist is better as it does sound like solving problem of men. A best word for a movement I'd join, even if ugly, is equal genderism.

I'm not really familiar with the term and I'd need to find some old physical dictionaries to know the real meaning is since anything pro male on the current internet could be distorted by feminist online dictionaries.

A movement called masculism would be seen as anti-women, mysogynist etc, even more than men's rights activism

We are against the movement that resulted in unfair treatment of men,which is feminism.

To obtain true equality between the genders, thats our aim.

We do not want to reciprocate, what feminism did to men.

Our job is to maintain equality.

There was a time when feminism truly advocated equality

It's now a hidden political agenda ,whose aim being female supremacy.

Hence it isn't a movement, it's demanding what is ours , what should be ours, what will be ours.

It makes us sound like we hate women--we don't. "Feminism" has a connotation of hating men. We won't stoop down to their level.

As others have said mostly perception. An average person with a slightly open mind that's unfamiliar with the disenfranchisement of men might give something called 'mens rights activists' a passing glance, where as something called masculism would be immediately dismissed as misogynistic. And unfortunately most people don't even have that open of a mind. Even with a neutral connotation, it draws comparison to feminism and many people supportive of mens rights would not like comparison to that kind of ideology.

Personally I think more people adopt the masculism label though. The simple fact that saying something like 'i'm a masculist' would offend so many people is precisely the reason it should be said. The fact that saying 'I believe in equality between men and women, but actual equality, and I'm using a different word than you are used to' drives people into a rage can likely only ever be changed by tackling it head on.

That being said I do actually prefer egalitarian if we're to use labels. Though I may have to drop it if they keep changing the definition.

Because men don’t face oppression for being men. They’ve always been superior in the economic and social world. Feminism basically means “we want women to be equal to men” and men have always been seen and treated as greater than women. Masculism doesn’t need to be a thing, you just want to be special.

Feminism was created to pull women out of the ditch they were in with no voting rights and no equality in the workplace. It’s a movement that has accomplished about everything it set out to do. A feminist these days almost seems strange to me. We still face issues that pertain to women, but not to the degree that original feminists did. Maybe men feel that if they used a similar title, it would risk looking like a movement against the original intent of feminism. So they prefer to label themselves as advocates for Men’s issues to avoid any possible stigma. I am a hardcore advocate for women’s rights—focused today on not losing the ability to access safe abortions and prevent sexual violence. I also am a strong advocate for various male issues as well. Domestic violence against men, men getting the shit end of the stick in family law etc… but I would never label myself a feminist, because I believe that movement has pretty much ran it’s course. We should be able to address gender related issues of today without it having to come from a group of cult-like minded people who have crushed the original intent out of the cause.
