Society is divided as such: wealthy/powerful/high value men > women > other men (80% of men basically)

Women you talk about want to be equal to the wealthy powerful men and want the other men to shut the fuck up about their issues and die alone in enslavement. But at the same time they want to have an unlimited pool of wealthier and more powerful men to marry.

It's as simple as that.

Money.

STEM jobs often find a good balance between cushy office jobs with sociable hours and decent pay. Unfortunately it requires some investment upfront in education, a little bit of effort - so why do that when you can have quotas, or turn a STEM job into "how women in engineering feel" conferences and generally talking about STEM without actually doing it.

e.g. look at how the social sciences and liberal arts academia is run - it's a shell game that gets more people in to discussing the thing or teaching it, no one actually doing anything tangible

we do have quotas for construction jobs but they usually just have women do flagging because there are zero out there that can do most of the actual jobs

Because you already know the answer. Feminism appeals to the selfish nature of some women. It's all about giving them special breaks (moreso than they already have but take for granted) and a superior position to men. These women couldn't handle life as a female, never mind life as a male. They have no idea what being male entails and what it requires because nobody anywhere is willing to tell them anything or suggest that being male isn't smashing people under their thumbs.

sorry to side against the tide, but perusing r/askfeminists there were some comments that agreed that more jobs (including the undesirable ones) should have more equal opportunity.

It's been a while since I looked so I can't remember where exactly i saw it. I think i got it from their sidebar that i hate cause it's normally just a wallop of information that has nothing to do with anything. 90% of the sidebar links are honestly "Check the sidebar!"

The funny thing is, there isn't much of a gender divide in most STEM fields. Mathematics is pretty balanced. Physics, same. Chemistry, same. Biology, it's mostly women. Medicine, more women. Computers and engineering, it's mostly men. That's it.

If you look at the relevant article in Wikipedia, you'll notice that they don't cite a single statistic. It doesn't say X% of STEM degrees in the US are women. No, it keeps spouting feminist rhetoric and the only numbers it gives are these:

Among the eighth grade class of 1988, boys were more than twice as likely as girls to aspire to be scientists or engineers (9 and 3 percent, respectively), although girls were more likely than boys to aspire to professional, business, or managerial occupations (38 and 20 percent respectively). While male and female high school seniors are equally likely to expect a career in science or mathematics, male seniors are much more likely than their female counterparts to expect a career in engineering.

Which is garbage. Hurr, little kids said this and that.

A few feminists with a couple of brain cells between them have realized that the future will be almost wholly computer controlled and robotically actioned. They don't want to be even more irrelevant than they currently are.

While I know a lot of "feminists" (the kind that give feminism a bad name), stop complaining about gender equality at physically demanding jobs, there is some point to it.

If your job requires you to have more upper body strength, more men will qualify just off of their genes than women will. STEM fields rarely require physical labor, so there isn't the pressure to hire people who can physically do the job.

Are there women who can keep up with (or even surpass) a lot of guys on an oil field? You bet there is. Is there number even remotely close to how many men can do it? No.

That's just my $0.02.

We don't. Despite spending my working life bouncing around various STEM jobs the closest I've ever seen to a quota for jobs in a STEM field was a university trying to show that it wasn't discriminating against people with disabilities.

Well it helps that both involve the kind of large employers that have HR departments that can show that their hiring practices are non discriminatory.

There have been various attempts to increase the number of women working in the oil industry.

And if they are all for equality why don’t we hear “we need more male nurses and cleaners!”

Attempts have been made to increase the number of male nurses. Cleaning firms tend to hire pretty much any warm body so it would be hard to argue for any discriminatory practices (the issue tends to be labelling male cleaners as janitors and paying them more).

It’s probably because men are disposable and if we die on the job it’s just par for the course.

You clearly work in a low hazard enviroment. A man dying at work will result in enough paperwork and fines to kill most small companies and severly endanger medium sized ones. Below that any RIDDOR reportable stuff will result in a lot of paperwork.
