Judge Phillip Wassall:

'One can only imagine what it is like to be accused of a very serious crime which could carry a sentence of around six years.

'There are some offences so serious that the court has no option other than immediate custody.

'There must be a clear message to anyone who invents a serious allegation, particularly one such as this which carries such a stigma.'

In the UK to keep the False Rape prosecutions statistics down only the most awful and egregious cases are prosecuted. The case has to be OK'd by a senior Crown Prosecutor using direction from up top:-

"33. To ensure consistency of approach, charging decisions in all cases should be approved by a Chief Crown Prosecutor or Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor." link

No other false allegations and perversions of justice have this requirement.

False rape claims in the UK are typically far worse (in effect) than most parts of the world. Mainly because police are extremely over-zealous and aggressive in "investigating", and rarely bother trying to do anything other than secure a conviction. This man would almost certainly be in jail now if it wasn't for the video, innocence is no defence in the eyes of a British court and women never lie about rape OK?

I think a big part of the problem in the UK is having a series of prominent feminist MPs who basically slandered men and whipped up this storm of hate and female victimization. It probably emboldened a lot of women to make false claims, what the government now needs to do is start making sounds and sending "messages" that making false rape claims is wrong, and if you do, you go to jail.
