Or was it a case of way more social pressure, less options, more traditional parents and more stigma around openly hooking up for fun, and then “keeping calm and carrying on” and just DEALING with the accepted reality that the person your with is your partner, this is real life not a movie, desire waning is standard but like everyone else you’ve got kids and responsibilities so you just suck it up and stay together…?

Nowadays we are reluctant to grow up. There’s less pressure to start a family. You aren’t stigmatised for wanting somebody you lust for and casual sex is standard for everyone below 40 without any stigma attached. You’re also encouraged never to settle and to know your worth and walk away at the first sign of your partner treating you badly or not meeting up to your ideal.

Do you think if your mom and dad were transported into 2023 from the 80’s and 90’s, your dad would struggle and your mom would be just like ever other girl on instagram and tinder and they’d never get together and you’d never be born?

If so, then expect a VASTLY different future to what your parents had.
