I'm in a unique position, as someone in the dating market. That has an adult daughter that is also in the dating market. I get to hear about her experiences, while going through my own.
Yesterday she called me in full on lathered up rage. Her anger stemmed from a conversation she had with a man, telling her that men need to keep their emotions to themselves, and their male friends, because women and society don't want to hear it, and doing so will only lead to failure. They need to abstain from sharing any emotions outside of happiness to women. Her retort was that this is crippling the black community, because black men are not willing be open with their emotions.
She expected me to agree with her, because on most occasions she's correct with her observations and opinions. She was initially upset with me when I told her he was right. There are some things that apply specifically to to black men ( and minorities in general), but this effects all men at large. Women pay great lip service to this idea, but what most women want is for men to express a limited scope of emotions in a range they deem acceptable. It's ok to cry because your Mom died, but not ok to cry because you're stressed out at work.
When I gave her real life examples of things that happened in our lives that she remembers from her POV, then explained what was going on behind the scenes. I could hear the cognitive dissonance gears tumbling in her brain. How do we change this dynamic? I believe that this lays within the scope of women, do you think that women are willing to search internally to change this in the relationship dynamic? ( by women, I mean at large. I'm not referring to posters on this sub. I'm sure you're all emotionally available for your partners, and willing to accept all their feelings. I'm referring to the rest of the population of women)
