If I smile at a guy he assumes I’m interested. Don’t take it personally, women are probably avoiding unnecessary drama. Or maybe they are not big on compliments. Or maybe they don’t feel like complimenting you. It could be anything.

Compliments are validating but the prob with wanting compliments is basically screaming “notice me senpai, I need the validation” when in reality… you can’t demand validation from strangers. That’s just a fact. If you have someone in your life who you want validation from, you can tell them how you value it and teach them what floats your boat and see if they’re amendable to it

Women do not like giving men compliments. My observation why

1) They do not like inflating our ego. The simplest way to check is by asking from a position of shame or insecurity. You probably get a bone thrown at you then.

2) They do not want to lead us on. They think that compliments themselves are an indication of interest.

3) They think compliments can be considered duplicitous. Wheras men are just simply honest when we compliment other men.

It may just depend on where you live. I'm in a rural area, and get compliments from men about a dozen times a month, and about half that from women. Women exclusively compliment my personality (you're so nice, that's sweet of you, you're very kind to help) but for men it's a 50/50 shot of personality vs looks. Typically men who look to be in their 30s-40s will say something about looks, older men will say something about personality.

I get the impression this is just how people are here, especially since I've seen it said to others too. For my part, I'll compliment anyone who looks stressed, bummed, or neutral-sad. Because you never know when that's going to brighten their day, so it's worth it.

Many times when I’ve complimented men, they take it as me being sexually interested in them, and some have gotten angry at me when I didn’t reciprocate the interest, complaining why I would “lead them on”… so now I’m more careful about only doing it when I feel more confident they won’t take it that way - like married friends coworkers.

I get complimented a lot by other women when I go out, usually about my hair. Men very rarely compliment me (like never once have I gotten a compliment about my hair from men), but sometimes male strangers yell “nice tits” at me from afar, which they might think is a compliment?

Complimenting someone of the opposite sex can be misconstrued as flirting so people tend not to do it as much as they compliment people of the same sex. Not much more to it than that.
