Folks, I am getting frustrated.

I was influenced by gender equality movements. I really considered women capable of pretty much everything a man is. But things are tense in my relationship with my wife about roles.

She refuses to drive with a trailer on because that is a man thing. She refuses to climb a ladder because that is a man thing, and I should be manly and doing those things. She refuses to use a saw because that is dangerous and that is a man thing. She refuses to do anything physical like dog holes or split and carry wood, because that is a man thing. The list goes on.

And I am ok with that. I encourage her, let her know she can do it, but she gets angry that I even encourage her to do “manly” things. On the flip side she complains ceaselessly about how she does more of the traditionally female role things like cooking and cleaning. Meanwhile I work for pay about 9 hours for every 1 of hers. No kids. I pay for the house, I maintain the car (and totally paid for it) I take care of everything legal and financial (and there is a lot) plus anything physical, creative, or dangerous.

Am I way off base on expecting her to do all the cooking and cleaning? She blew up about it when I was annoyed she didn’t make dinner tonight without telling me. I ended up making it myself. Can we just get back to gender roles so we don’t have to fight about this shit constantly?
