Monogamous relationships are great. However, our society is built on the idea that most people should be lifelong monogamous in order to raise kids in nuclear families. This just doesn't work for many people because it is in conflict with how human nature is actually supposed to be (hypergamy, polygyny).

All forms of family are developed because of material conditions, so did the nuclear family. The idea of lifelong monogamy and the "patriarchy" was also a result of material conditions. Inequality to access to resources led to harems which led to the need of the patriarchy. (hypergamy might have always existed but harem forms became significantly more dominant after the invention of agriculture which widened the gap of inequality of resources)

In a society where there is equal access to resources, there would theoretically be no need for the patriarchy of forced monogamy as in a more "communist" like society a lot of kids would be raised by the community as a whole.

To sum up, a lot of the problems are created because people see lifelong monogamy (and marriage) as the ultimate goal in life, however humans are not meant to be strictly monogamous which is why the divorce rates are so high and why several other problems exist. However, the monogamy "nuclear family" ideal is a construct developed because of material conditions and economic inequality.
