Personally I don’t really have that many dealbreakers but one of them is being fat, which can be controlled. I don’t have dealbreakers for things that are unchangable and I always give it a chance to see if there’s mutual attraction. I’m attracted to every race and I’ve never looked at someone like “Oh man her hips aren’t wide enough for me so it’s on to the next girl.” Cause that’s some weird shit to me ngl. And plus how the fuck do you grow up only being attracted to men over 6 foot? Thats social conditioning coming from other women in action.

Everyone wants to experience attraction and to be with a partner they're attracted to. I don't fault anyone for wanting that. I think the source of the criticism is the (supposed) use of height as a deal-breaker before attraction has a chance to organically blossom. In other words, the difference is between "I refuse to date you if [physical characteristic]", rather than, "I've dated you for a while, and the attraction just isn't there, because of [physical characteristic]."

Women were traditionally the ones going on about shallowness and how its personality that matters more than looks.

This is not hypocrisy as such, but more just a reaction to lies now the veil has been drawn.

I once watched this video of this 3 foot dwarf woman who had a medical condition that made her bones and pelvis brittle. She was constrained by a wheel chair and couldn't even walk or take care of herself. Yet, when presented with the opportunity to date a guy who was around 5'10, normal intelligence but had a limp, she rejected him because "she wanted a normal muscular man who was at least 6 feet".

This was a woman who was at the bottom of the barrel. I think this is the mindset you hear men complain about. Whether you're a dwarf woman in a wheel chair or obese fat woman, it's not in your best interest to have such high standards...

Because virtually everything men are attracted to is a preference and for merely every type of women there is a group of men that find them attractive, while height is the law.

Anyways that's just bitterness. Nothing could be done about it. You always had to be tall, dark and handsome or fuck off.

Should? Irrelevant. They don't, unless any other need (or greed - not necessarily material or numeric) allows them to not preoccupy themselves with the lack of attraction and "just do their duties".

Not long ago we had a convo with that runner grill who tolerates her husband because external pressures. "Lesser evil", so to speak.

Your argument made sense at the start, then I remembered men usually date any woman they are slightly attracted to.

Being 6' is like being the top 10% of the US in height and US's height is TALL compared to some other countries. So the point is that wimmen have high standards, men have high preferences.

We’re attracted to what we’re attracted to. But rarely do we find an uncontrollable trait that excludes a large majority of the entire male population (at least in the US). Using a 6’ cutoff, which is a common sentiment I’ve seen across multiple dating apps, can exclude anywhere from 80-90% of all American men, depending on what sources you want to cite.

It’s not common for men to stipulate that the women they date must be less than 120lbs, or something similar. Even then, at least weight is something that a person can change. Height... not so much.

For the most part, what I’ve observed is that men seem to ask for women who are comparable in attractiveness to them to give them a fighting chance. If you want to argue about whether people’s self-rated attractiveness is at all reflective of how society perceives them, that’s fair. But my impression is that men (even here) are not as mercenary as to what traits that they’ll consider in the women they would date. (N-count being the glaring exception- which I think is a load of horseshit anyway).

There's two ways you can look at this.

Either:

You can reject people for arbitrary physical preferences.

OR
You cannot reject people for arbitrary physical preferences.

In option 2, men complaining about being rejected for height are upset because anyone rejecting fatties is met with cries of 'fatphobia' or 'bigotry' or 'shallowness'. It's hypocritical because the people demanding heights out there are also angry that they get rejected for being fat. Getting rejected for being short doesn't even have a word in common parlance (is it 'heightist'? or 'verticalism'? I don't know, but it doesn't have a neologism like 'fatphobia').

If everyone (men AND women) just accepted option 1, we'd all be a lot happier.
