They would love it if it was how many of them imagine it being. “Hey handsome! Let me take you out!” seems to be would many of them think catcalling consists of.

Most catcalling isn’t genuine flirting. The catcallers know it won’t work. I’ve been asked at bus stops if I “like rough sex.” I’ve countless times been shouted at “does the carpet match the drapes?!” These aren’t compliments. They want to make me uncomfortable. They want to put me in my place.

I’m fat and disabled. People avoid acknowledging my existence unless I force them to. There are worse things than a subtle (or not so subtle) acknowledgement of your attractiveness.

I don’t agree

As someone who’s been cat called by both men and women here’s what I can say truthfully:

Men: I’m not gay but I am like kinda bi (very small niche of men I find attractive) and I hate getting cat called by men cuz most I don’t find attractive, happens when I frequent gay bars w friends

Women: Only happened on a few rare occasions, and I loved every moment of it even though on most occasions the women weren’t attractive at all cuz it’s so rare lol
