The assumption that if a man defends a woman, he must 1.) get screwed over and 2.) think he’ll get something out of it says more about how YOU think than anything.

For me, I just don’t like faulty logic.

And there’s nothing more faulty than the notion that only one gender is worth defending.

I don’t need to “get something” out of it, I already am satisfied with myself.

Many are probably cucks who won’t get the attention of women otherwise. So they do it for validation and to feel morally superior. They probably also see more successful men as their competitors, so they take the frustration out on them.

Others are the hyper-masculine archetype, who see women as weaker and believe they must protect them at all costs (fuck context or justice). This also happens a lot. In the end, they’re probably deeply insecure and think their masculinity comes from acts like these.

A lot of them do it because they think the end result will be a woman finding them attractive and wanting to be romantically and sexually involved with them. Yet 99.9% of the time, it doesn’t result in that.

There’s a great example of a Reddit user who was a mod for a white knight woman subreddit. Guess what? The guy killed himself because he couldn’t handle being romantically and sexually lonely anymore

Calling men simps and white knights is a very red pill behavior and red pill unfortunately has the astounding arrogance to believe their viewpoint represents all men, so any man who disagrees must be betraying their gender and attacking men as a whole. This is, of course, bullshit.

Some people genuinely just are that way.

Some use it as a method to ingratiate themselves as one of the good ones.

Some a predatory and use it in order to keep other men away, whilst also painting themselves as toothless and harmless.

A lot of people here will tell you things like "Men like that never get women!" but that's not true. IRL, I've seen a lot of guys who pretend to be allies, only to chew them up and spit them out worse than even the kinds of men they claimed to hate.

There are a lot of reasons some people do it.

Simps and white knights tend to not get any, so I don't understand this question.

Women don't get attracted to guys who do "favors" for her, and whiteknighting is unnecessary - women can defend themselves verbally, they don't need men to do it, and in cases of actual violent threats, defending a woman from assault is not considered whiteknighting (and usually falls on paid employees like security, police, etc. anyway, or a woman's actual boyfriend or husband...not some stranger)

In this sub, some men just have balanced perspectives and shut down incel rhetoric when it appears because it's stupid, false, and actively hurting younger men who are confused and lack the life experience to realize that it's bullshit. Steroids, a hammer to the face, and being a dick aren't going to help some asocial weirdo who has nothing to talk about besides video games and his job.

I don't believe women are being literal when they say they hate men.

Ive been accused of both. I feel like neither. I just always try to argue in good faith and so often find myself in conflict with certain men whose reason is guided primarily by shame and resentment.

My guess? Maybe many such people buy into the “all women are victims and all men are selfish kings” mental model (aka patriarchy theory of structural feminism). Then they feel that they need to “reform” men from the inside. One common theme is that they are angry and often make vague, emotional posts and comments, but avoid discussing the specifics.

Might be a good idea to define what you mean by "white knight" first.

Perhaps something like: A man who reflexively defends women, even when they're clearly in the wrong, or who applies different standards to men and women in order to appear virtuous or win approval. Sound reasonable?

As for the motive, I'd guess it's often image management or social approval. You know the type at work who agrees with everything the boss says, never pushes back, points out everyone else's mistakes, and laughs far too hard at the boss's mediocre jokes? It can be a similar thing, seeking approval by siding with whoever they see as the higher status or more socially protected group.

Of course, not everyone who defends a woman is a white knight. Sometimes people simply think she's in the right.
