Doing project for a math class where we graphed the number of degrees being attained (women are getting more) and then compared wages by different degree levels (men earn more for each). I will provide some explanations:

  1. career choice. even with cultural pressures the choice is still in the hands of the woman.
  2. confidence. women are less likely to take risks. this means less likely to ask for a raise, and in the application process a more modest compensation request (many places ask you how much you are expecting)
  3. basic chronology. this is one i came up with myself. basically all the statistics are of ALL PEOPLE who are employed. this includes those who have had the same job since forever, and still have their old (unfair) salary. if anybody can provide statistics of ENTRY-LEVEL SALARIES i will rest my case. basically i am suggesting that sexism is dead, but we still feel past remnants
  4. part-time work. basically a lot of mothers still want to work but choose part-time employment. females are over-represented in the lower-paying part-time sector

Wage Gap is the only quantitative argument Feminists have. Everything else is cultural and political, and that is just too personal to truly debate. If no Feminist steps in to debunk these I will continue my firm belief that the Wage Gap is a myth. I know there are other more academic studies that have been done but i am presenting a user-friendly summary. Discuss
