Here's my perception as someone who was born working class and is now upper middle class:

For upper class people, the husband and wife are both very ambitious, focused on living as well as possible and advancing their kids. Very cutthroat. However, the man tends to be the more money focused one.

For middle class and lower, my perception is that the woman in a given relationship tends to be the ambitious one. She's the one that wants things. Big house, a healthy circle of friends, a job that she finds fulfilling, a degree and the status that comes with it, good income from multiple sources, regular therapist and doctor visits to maintain her health, you name it... she wants it.

The dude tends to want pussy, and to be occasionally left alone to play videogames or indulge his other hobbies instead of having to get out and work, work work to get what wifey wants. That's it. That's his list of ambitions.

Just something I've perceived and I'm curious whether it matches anyone else's observations. I realize my experience is anecdotal, but it does fit in with the statistical fact that young women are outearning men, and getting more degrees than men.

For those who agree with my observations, what explains the disparity? Is feminism successfully pushing women to achieve more while convincing men they can kick back and be respected (lol) as SAHD sacks (stay at home dads)? Are men just demoralized because of our crooked divorce-rape-encouraging system which can sweep the rug out from under them at any time? Are women being influenced by the advertising industry, with its traditional targeting of women (due to them controlling most of the wealth in the country), turning them into money/spending obsessed hyper consumers? What's going on?
