Things viewed under certain contexts are assumed to be "real" or are viewed as trying to be passed off as "real", even when that's not the case. The bit in the OP is a case of an act, and not trying to be passed off as real at all.

However, people who go to r/pussypassdenied aren't typically going there to see unreal events, and with that context, see this and believe it's trying to be passed off as real even though its not.

I think its funny regardless. Others can't get pass how its an act. Its not as one-to-one as your Game of Thrones analogy though.

Don't feel bad. I had to watch it five times to even understand that a money transaction was taking place. The concept of paying with a cell phone (even though I've done it myself) is still somewhat unheard of in the states. In a significant part - yes. The company actually processing the payment takes a cut, the credit card company (or bank, possibly both- in the case of debit cards) takes a cut. So the $10 "bill" you pay actually only gets $9 to the merchant.

To make up for that "loss" (which happens on every transaction) prices rise over time - not only at individual merchants, but across their supply chain, and on upwards. Since supply costs rise, so does the merchant's overhead, further driving price inflation. If you don't see prices rise, look for portions or services to be reduced (the 5# bag of sugar you used to buy drops down to 4#, without a lock- stepped price reduction)

In this way, and combined with interest rate deflation, and other factors -- money loses buying power. This is the essence of inflation.

Naysayers will explain that individual transactions don't effect inflation - "it's controlled by governments altering interest rates, and stock market activity". What they refuse to share is that those "market forces" are the same thing, only on a larger scale.

I've never seen, heard about, or experienced this phenomenon. I've been on dates where I've gone to pay and my dates have vehemently insisted that they'll pay. I've had small arguments about it. Used to have customers do this to me all the time. It puts cashier's in a super fucking awkward position. Like who's card do I choose? I'd always step back and let them decide who's forking out the cash before taking payment. When given the chance, one person usually said something like 'ok fine I'll get the next one' or whatever.
