black lipstick isnt as versatile as a red lip. you can wear a red lipstick with any look and it would be flattering. with black, it could be very distracting. not only that, but black lipstick is typically associated with being alternative or "hardcore". there are very very few women who can actually pull it off.

if you want to look traditionally feminine, i would honestly avoid black lipstick. if you want a dark lip color, there are plenty of dark reds, purples, or nudes you can try that wont be as overwhelming as black

personally, i reach for coral and nude pink. coral especially looks amazing on me, but keep in mind that every woman will look good in different lip colors depending on the shade of her skin and the undertone

It depends on what kind of guy you’re interested in. If you like musicians from the punk-rock or metal scene, or men who have edgy/alternative aesthetics and lifestyles, then black lipstick is perfectly fine and may even help you attract those men. You should dress and do your makeup for the man you want.

However, if you like finance bros, surfer dudes, or country boys, it may not be the most attractive look to them. If you’re single and trying to cast a wide net, black lipstick may unnecessarily repel a lot of guys who would otherwise be into you. A general rule of thumb: the majority of men like a “perfected” natural look - it plausibly looks like you woke up like that, but you did minor tweaks to enhance your features and conceal flaws like blemishes, dark circles, etc.

If you already have a man, just ask him for his opinion on your lipstick. Chances are he will have a preference! My man absolutely hates the feel of lip products on my lips when he’s kissing me. Lip gloss is his arch-enemy, dark shades like red or brown make him anxious that we’re gonna get it all over our clothes, and even the slip of a lip balm rubs him the wrong way. Around him, I always wipe off my lip product before kisses.

When I’m alone or if we’re in public (we hate excessive PDA so I won’t have to worry about kissing him until we get home), I love a wine-stained look from tinted lip balm (my favorite is Red Dahlia from Burt’s Bees), a nice glossy lip (Fenty Beauty’s Gloss Bomb in Fenty Glow is my holy grail, non-sticky lip gloss!), or if I’m taking pictures, a gradient lip look that takes way too long to perfect 😂. I usually stick to corals or blotted reds and pinks. Full-on red lipstick unfortunately looks really harsh on my features :/

Black lipstick looks breathtaking and feminine on very dark skinned women. For everyone else it wouldn’t really appeal to a large demographic. If your man is into black lipstick it’s fine but otherwise it can be a bit harsh.

I’m cold toned light medium so my go to are colder MLBBs and sheer purples

Black lipstick isn’t for me. I like pinks, reds and nudes. But, to each their own. Clearly there is a market for it and some women can pull it off.

It's not very feminine. Probably don't wear it unless you're in the alt scene and date men who like alt women. Men have strong feelings towards it (some love it). I'm engaged and wear it since my fiance likes that I dress from girly to alt to classic to trendy. Maybe use it for an ombre look? I second the dark vampy colors instead. Or even a dark brown depending on your skin tone.

I wore black lipstick as part of an outfit to “emo day” in middle school and our female principal pulled me aside and to talk to me, and implied I looked like a whore. Didn’t say the word, but she said “you look like a… you know… with that black lipstick on”. 🙃 So personally, I would say it doesn’t matter because people will judge you no matter what. I think lipstick in general is feminine. I would choose red though, for most outfits and occasions.

Black lipstick is a no-go on femininity for me, unless it's Halloween and then all bets are off. But normally, I stick to pink nudes, brown nudes, and the very occasional classic or deep red.

My husband prefers traditional feminine lip shades and glossy lips, so that's what I stick with. (It's my personal preference as well.) However if my husband wanted to see me in black lippy for a change I would try it.

I don't wear lipstick or makeup, there are a lot of bad chemicals in them anyways. I personally wear tinted chapstick or nothing really (if my lips aren't dry).

I think lipstick in general make you stand out, the bold colours make you look promiscuous (no offense).

I used to really love this “black suede” lip color NYX used to make (idk if they still have it bc tbh their quality has gone in the toilet and I don’t look at their stuff anymore). It can reallly depend on the shade of black, but I found that one to be very dramatic but still feminine. I’m a ginger so it’s pretty surprising that a black lip would look good on me but it can. I would avoid really shiny looking black and go for a more mute and matte shade. Maybe a dark brown would also have the same effect.
